He's dressed all in brown, even to his hat. [mandesc=1]|The body of the giant ogre lies in a pool of blood in the middle of the road. It's pretty gruesome. It looks like he fell out of the sky, but of course that's absurd. [mandesc=2]|The ogre is a fearsome beast: ugly and dirty, huge and strong, and he eats young boys like you for breakfast. I wouldn't bother him if I were you! One of his arms hangs down, as if he just put something down before he went to sleep. [maninit=0]|[dwarf=%state%] [maninit=1]|And a dead ogre lies beside that. [maninit=2]|A giant ogre is sleeping in his huge stone chair. [dwarf=15]|A stranger with a familiar-looking cow is standing by the road. [dwarf=16]|A stranger is standing by the road. Stranger is carrying a cow.|The stranger has your old cow, Milky. [wview=0]|Looks like a nice day outside. [wview=1]|Looks like a nice day outside. [wview=2]|A huge beanstalk has grown up outside the window. It must have come from those magic beans you gave to your mother! Prize1|bag of gold Prize2|brown hen Prize3|golden harp [prizedesc=1]|A heavy sack of gold coins! You've never seen this much money in your life! [prizedesc=2]|This common-looking brown hen can lay golden eggs! It's a miracle! [prizedesc=3]|A beautiful stringed instrument. The golden frame is decorated with sparkling diamonds and rubies, and the strings themselves are pure-spun gold. [prizetake=1]|If you can sneak out with it, you and your mother will no longer be starving. [prizetake=2]|If you can get back home with it, you and your mother will no longer need to work. [prizetake=3]|If you can get this home, you'll be set for life. The person who owns a magic harp will be welcome anywhere. [feedogre=1]|It is only a sheep you smell. Let me cook it for you." But he declared he was too hungry to wait, and so she was obliged to serve the poor lamb raw and bloody, which he consumed in indecent haste. [feedogre=2]|It is only a nice fresh pair of wolves, that I have cooked for you, which you smell. There, sit down and eat." You then hear the ogre eating and crunching his meal, smacking his huge lips with pleasure. [feedogre=3]|It is only a whole roasted bull that I thought you might enjoy. Sit down and eat." She then served him a huge platter of steaming meat which he soon devoured like it was nothing. [newprize=1]|a bag of coins." So she went and unlocked a huge chest and brought him a bag, and the ogre began to count the coins: "One. Two. Three..." [newprize=2]|the hen that lays the golden eggs." So she brought it, and the ogre said: "Lay," and it laid an egg all of gold. [newprize=3]|my golden harp." So she brought it, and the ogre said: "Play," and it sang such a beautiful lullaby that you almost fell asleep yourself. [feedme=1]|"It’s breakfast you want, is it?" says the great big tall woman. "You'll be breakfast if my husband finds you here. He's an ogre and there’s nothing he likes better than boys broiled on toast."

"Oh! But please, ma'am, I’ve had nothing to eat since yesterday morning, honest!" you say. "If I don't eat soon, I might die anyway!"

"Oh, very well. Come in and be quick about it." [feedme=2]|"Oh, go away, boy, or my husband, the ogre, will eat you for breakfast. You know, you look like another lad that came here and that same day we lost a bag of gold. Was that you?"

"Oh, no, ma'am. But I might know something about that if I had something to eat. I can't think when I'm so hungry."

And the giantess was so intrigued, she invited you inside. [feedme=3]|"What, another hungry boy at my door? Don't you know that this is the castle of the giant ogre? He'll eat you, my boy! And such a temper he has since our best hen was stolen!"

You sympathize with the giantess, letting her tell you all her troubles, and you are so charming, and look so innocent, she never connects you with the previous robberies and is only too eager to let you in and give you a meal. [stalkinit=1]|A broken beanstalk lies alongside the road. [stalkinit=2]|A tall beanstalk dominates the garden. [me=1]|eight-year old farmboy, skinny and hopefully not as foolish as your reputation. You're wearing plain homespun [me=2]|ten-year old farmboy, healthy and cleaner than you normally remember. You're wearing a fine green outfit today and a matching feathered cap. Yes, it is a bit silly, but you don't care [me=3]|twelve-year old farmboy, handsome and strong. You're wearing a smart black outfit decorated with your mother's best embroidery and a fine leather jacket.

"Twelve?" you cry. "I'm not twelve! I'm eight!"

"But you will be twelve, Jack, someday," the voice whispers. "If you are clever enough..."
[mom=1]|Your mother is as you remember her: a poor farmer's widow, gnarled somewhat by hunger and hard labour. She's the only family you have, and no matter what, she always found some love and food for you. Until today. [mom=2]|Your mother looks okay. Pretty, even. Is that makeup? You have never ever seen her with makeup before. She's always said such things were extravagant foolishnesses. You wonder what changed her mind. [mom=3]|Your mother looks great. A bit older than you remember, but she's obviously taking care of herself. Dressed rather oddly, though. You understand the apron if she's washing the dishes, but why the party dress and the pearl necklace? And where did that come from? [kitdesc=1]|Your humble home is more humble than most. The food pot hanging over the fireplace is easily its most interesting feature. [kitdesc=2]|Your humble home isn't quite so humble anymore. Besides a new table and curtains, it looks like your mother got a new spinning wheel to keep her busy. Like, the farm wasn't enough work? [kitdesc=3]|You almost don't recognize the place. Rugs, furniture, and knickknacks! And food! Sausages hanging from one corner! Jars of preserves and pickles! A basket of eggs! In fact, eggs seem to be something of a motif. A lot of the knickknacks incorporate painted eggs in some way. [stuff=1]|Clothes, old toys. Pathetic, really. Most of the toys are made from junk you've collected here and there. [stuff=2]|New clothes. Some dirty dishes. Most of your old toys have been replaced with newer ones. Not too bad. [stuff=3]|There's a wardrobe of new clothes. Nice ones, too. And the books and letters are new.

"Books?" you wonder. "When did I learn to read? And that letter... is that a girl's handwriting? A girl sent me a letter?? Ewww." [bed=1]|Your bed is but a pallet of straw, marginally more comfortable than sleeping on the bare floor. [bed=2]|Your bed has acquired a few sheets and blankets in the last couple years. [bed=3]|It's a proper bed, with a mattress and everything. Now this is living! [brag=1]|It's not much to brag about. [brag=2]|The new paint job's not bad. Makes it look bigger than it really is. [brag=3]|The rug and the painted walls help make it look cosy, but you'd like some more space. You and mother have been talking about adding a few rooms to the back of cottage; you'll move there and this can be a normal attic again. Oh well. [run1=1]| [run1=2]| [run1=3]|

As you stole out of the castle, your heart skipped a beat when the harp suddenly called out "MASTER! MASTER!" From the castle, you heard the last thing you wanted to hear:

"MY HARP! MY HARP! THIEF! THIEF!", roared the ogre. [run2=1]| [run2=2]| [run2=3]|

Oh no! The ogre's climbing down after you! The entire beanstalk is shaking with his vast weight! You see no such thing.|You don't see that (or it's not implemented).
