Apollo 11

Apollo 11 is a Z-machine historical simulation written with Inform 7 and is © 2008 by Brooke Heinichen. This game was released as part of Historical Simulations in the Classroom (archived by the Internet Archive); in particular, the 12th grade Historical Simulation Design Course taught by Jeremiah McCall at the Cincinnati Country Day School.

In this re-creation of an historical event, you play as Neil Armstrong, one of the astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon. The story will begin when you suit up at the Kennedy Space Center, and end when you plant the American flag in the Sea of Tranquility.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the story.

NOTE: The author of this story is obviously new to interactive fiction and isn't familiar with standard commands and practices, so you're going to have to read the text carefully for clues on how to exactly phrase your commands. Fortunately, you're going to be told quite often exactly what to do next. The story is very linear and won't let you deviate from the script too much. Talk to Buzz if you're ever unsure what you're expected to do next.

Kennedy Space Center

The suit isn't actually implemented and the standard command "wear suit" doesn't work.

> suit up. check in.

> enter elevator.


Pushing the open button will merely return you to the space center.

> push up.


> x rockets. x system. run system check.

> sit in chair. (Not the standard "sit on chair".)

> look. (Oh, good, the other astronauts are actually here now.)

> push launch. talk to buzz.

Notice how the time in the status bar is increasing by 200 minutes with every turn now. We're waiting for 4320 minutes.

> talk to michael. look out window. (Not "look through window".)

> configure lunar orbit. confirm launch. enter lm door.
