[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "What the hell happened last time"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Hello, kids"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Hello, Daisy."

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Sorry, I was busy saving the Galaxy from Reapers"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "heh, no problem"

[slingergame] DM asks, "So, shall we begin right away, get the exposition over with?"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "(because y'all pirates are all hankering for... blood)"

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Spin us a yarn, oh GM"

DM says, "Two weeks after the Double Clutch struck an iceberg and sank forever into oblivion, Captain Celaeno remains trapped in the icy city of Direfrost, with only the hospitality of the Pilgrim And Cup to console her (and ten gold pieces in her pocket). Her companions are all gone?: Dunatim Silverbreath the half-elf warlock has been summoned home by an urgent message, Donaar the dragonborn paladin joined a passing regiment from her native Pyrran Republic dispatched to investigate rumors of a war brewing deep in elven lands, and even that endearing half-orc monk (known to the world only under the name of... The Green Fist) has also left, unable to pay any longer for his own food and lodging. But, luckily for Celaeno, someone stayed behind?: Sarah Redspur, a dashing red-haired human with fox-like green eyes, rescued from the clutches of the villainous Baron Grasstongue, who (much like Celaeno herself) is now stranded far from home."

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Sorry, text dump."

DM says (to Celaeno), "It's now dinnertime, and the snow is falling outside the tinted windows of the warm inn. Merey has brough you steaming platefuls of smoked hare, topped with a generous helping of melted blue cheese."

(From DM) Redspur swallows her first bite, hesitates, and then speaks. 'I've been meaning to ask you about something... could you help me find a trusty sailing crew?? I've been away from home for too long, and with people talking about some sort of war brewing, I'm not sure it's safe for me to travel by foot.'

Daisy arrives from the east.

Celaeno says, "Aye, I've hired my fair share of scalliwags in my time"

[slingergame] DM says (to Daisy), "for exposition, @recap dtt"

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Already done"

(From DM) Redspur says, 'So that's a yes? That'd be great! When do you think we can get started?'

[slingergame] Daisy asks, "Wait, we let Dunatim go?"

[slingergame] DM says, "He didn't do anything illegal, other than stabbing himself ineffectually."

[slingergame] DM says, "Plus, politics."

Celaeno says, "As early as the morning, if you like, although if you're not in a rush we could spread the good word for a few days first"

Celaeno says, "It's a sailing town; there's always a few idle hands about"

(From DM) 'Well, I'm not much of a sailor myself, but I'll try my best!'

Celaeno asks, "Do you already have a vessel?"

(From DM) Redspur laughs. 'I was kidnapped and frozen in a block of ice for five months! Why in the world would I have a boat?'

(From DM) Suddenly, the door of the tavern swings open, and a half-naked, tall human comes in, carrying a half-frozen gnome over his shoulder?! 'Bardolph?!' Roscoe the tavern-keeper exclaims. 'The iceberg got my bloody boat,' the half-naked fisherman replies grimly. 'Two bottles of cider, Roscoe. Put it on the gnome's tab.'

[slingergame] Daisy asks, "Am I conscious?"

[slingergame] DM says, "Conscious but a little bit confused."

Daisy says, "Arr! And a bowl of water for me wee friend" And I but a soaking wet Captain Blacktail on the counter."

Daisy says, "Who is this gnome who is paying for all this? I'll have ta thank 'im""

(From DM) Merey says, 'Awww! It's so cute!', and tries to pet the squirrel.

Daisy says, "Blacktail is happy to be petted."

(From DM) Bardolph snorts. 'Ah, you're awake, gnome. I saved your life, least you can do is buy me a drink.'

Daisy says, "Fair 'nuff. Barkeep, a small beer for my friend."

(From DM) Merey pops out, and comes back with a bottle of beer, two bottles of cider and a bowl of water.

Celaeno says, "If it weren't for icebergs, this place would get no customers at all"

Daisy laughs.

(From DM) Roscoe rolls his eyes. 'People around here don't like foreign ex-rogues like myself,' he sighs. 'Self-righteous bastards.'

DM says, "(Roscoe being the innkeeper and Merey his wife)"

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Wa? Ex Fighter, if you please."

[slingergame] Alex says (to Daisy), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that WA is Worlds Apart."

(From DM) 'Even when technically I wasn't an ex-rogue, I was an ex-fighter whose army got totally wiped off the face of the earth, leaving me with nothing but revenge and -- anyway, I'm rambling.'

Daisy asks, "Say, barkeep, given that this town is almost empty, where would one find a trustworthy captain who is hirin' ?"

(From DM) Roscoe says, 'Well, how about you try the kenku over there in the corner, next to the redhead?'

(From DM) 'Although, technically, I don't think he has a ship at the moment.'

Daisy says, "I saunter over. "Ye probably heard that"

Celaeno says, "Aye"

(From DM) Redspur says, 'Hi! Nice hair.'

Daisy says, "Likewise!"

Daisy says, "So, I'm known round these parts as Deadshot Daisy"

Celaeno says, "If you say so"

(From DM) Redspur smiles. 'Pleased to meet you, Daisy! That squirrel looks so delic-- uh, I mean cute!'

(From Daisy) Blacktail quickly clambers on Daisy's head and looks at Redspur suspiciously.

(From DM) Bardolph also comes over. 'Mind if I sit, Captain? It's been rough lately, especially since poor Oakwillow died.'

Celaeno asks, "Where ye be headed?"

Daisy says, "I have no concrete plans. Wherever the ship goes, I reckon"

Celaeno says, "Towards the equator, then, and away from icebergs."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Icebergs! Hate 'em.'

Daisy says, "Not an admirer myself. What kind of ship are ye running? Merchant, or mercanery or, you know, more, like, private entrepeneur...""

Celaeno says, "It'll depend somewhat on what is on the market"

Daisy says, "I see"

(From DM) Bardolph snorts. 'Here in Direfrost? Precious little.'

(From DM) From the corner of the room, a couple of wild-eyed dwarves glance at y'all suspiciously. Were they there before? Who knows.

Daisy says (to Bardolph), "You must know something"

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Well, yeah, since you're mentioning it, there's this fishing boat which has been in the harbour for months. The Icebird.'

Daisy says, "A fishing boat? Not quite what I used to sail on before"

(From DM) 'It belonged to Baron Grasstongue, but he'd stopped using it because of the icebergs, and now he's been arrested and hanged and everything I guess it doesn't belong to nobody no more.'

Daisy says, "Ah, so we could purloin it. Good plan!"

(From DM) There is a BANG as somebody kicks the door open with hobnailed boots. Moments later, a dwarf with a cocked hat comes in, accompanied by three humans, one tall, one short, one fat, but each and every one of them have identical eyepatches.

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Oh no, 3-eyes Burton"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "ahaaa"

DM says (to Celaeni), "You recognize the dwarf! It's... 'Goldbeard' Crippler, a notorious pirate."

Celaeno says, "Hrm."

(From DM) The dwarf recognizes Celaeno. 'Hey there! Whassup, Tweety-Bird?'

(From DM) 'Whatcha doing in this dump?'

Celaeno says, "Just watching what the tide's washing in, Goldbird."

(From DM) 'Ha! Always the joker, Sweety-Feathers.'

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Get a room!"

(From DM) Goldbeard, followed by his cronies, walk up to y'all.

(From DM) 'What's all the whispering about, then? I've never seen a sillier bunch of conspirators in my life.'

Celaeno says, "Oh, just a big... nah, it's nothing you'd be interested in."

(From DM) Redspur snaps, 'None of your business.'

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "The Icebird did the Kessel Run in nine tendays"

Daisy says, "I push back from the table a bit, in case of trouble"

(From DM) 'Oh? None of my business? What if you needed my help, ladies? What then?'

Daisy asks, "Is this dwarf yer friend, captain Celaeno?"

Celaeno says, "From time to time"

(From DM) Goldbeard chuckles. 'Ahahahah! Many's the time we've crossed swords together. You even managed that one time to take out these three gents' eyes in one stab. To be fair, those knuckleheads really shouldn't stand right behind each other in combat.'

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "ha ha ha"

Daisy says, "I wordlessly point at Captain Blacktail's eyepatch and chuckle."

(From DM) The three 'knuckleheads' behind Goldbeard look sheepish and step away from each other, having been standing in a line previously.

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "I know who I'm hiding behind in combat"

(From DM) Goldbeard glances around, spots the couple of dwarves in the corner. 'Hey, there! Aren't you Banner and Rylde? I could use you on my ship. I hear you're great with knives.'

(From DM) The two dwarves are startled, and glare silently back.

Daisy whispers to Celaeno, "Hey, why don't we hire on with him?"

(From DM) Goldbeard says, 'I heard that! Ha!'

Celaeno says (to Daisy), "His passengers don't always arrive in one piece."

(From DM) He wags his finger at Celaeno and Daisy. 'So you are looking for a ship! I should have known! Poor little sweetheart lost her toy boat to a big bad iceberg, didn't she?? Maybe you wish you had a brand new one??'

(From DM) 'Well,' Goldbeard smirks, winking at Celaeno, 'I've got myself a nice galley, the Howling Dwarf, the finest that ever sailed the ocean blue. She'll have made your silly little Cobble Dutch look like an oak leaf with a twig through the middle.'

Celaeno says, "You could say I've got my eye out for one."

Daisy says, "he he"

(From DM) 'Ah, wait, your ship wasn't called the Cobble Dutch, wazzit? It was called... yep, the Rubber Duck, hahah'

Celaeno says (to Daisy), "Alright, well, see you upon the morn, then."

Celaeno goes to bed.

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "waiiit"

Daisy says, "Ar, methinks me captain struck at ye from the moral highground there, Yellowfuzz"

(From DM) Goldbeard stops Celaeno as she's heading to bed. 'Wait,' he says.

(From DM) (Technically, he pulls her back as she's heading up the stairs.)

Celaeno says, "Fine. What."

(From DM) 'You really didn't feel insulted *at all*?'

(From DM) 'Because I flatter myself to be the greatest insulter and verbal abuser that ever sailed the ocean blue!'

Celaeno says, "You're getting better! You really are. Keep at it."

(From DM) Goldbeard grabs you by the scruff of your clothing, and starts shaking you gently. 'You think you can get away with this kind of condescension?'

Daisy says, "Hey, leave my captain alone."

(From DM) 'Oh, shuddup, little gnome. Go to bed and hug a teddy or whatever'

Celaeno says, "Yep, reckon so."

Daisy says, "I'll have ye know I'm Deadshot Daisy"

(From DM) Roscoe says, 'Hey! Unhand her -- ' and then the three knuckleheads grab him.

(From DM) Merey says, 'Let go of my husband, you clowns!'

Daisy says, "Say the word, Celaeno" I say and put my hand on my crossbow."

(From DM) Goldbeard sees the gesture. 'I see it now!' he yells.

(From DM) 'It's a trap! You set me up, Celaeno.'

(From DM) 'You knew how to push my buttons, didnya!'

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Kiss already"

(From DM) 'Three Stiffs! Get rid of the innkeeper and grab that gnome before she takes out my eye!'

Celaeno says, "Yes, yes; it's all been part of my oh-so-clever trap. How did you see through it."

(From DM) The three knuckleheads then proceed to throw Roscoe out the window! He crashes into the street!

Daisy says, "I put Blacktail on the table. "Scram, little buddy""

(From DM) The dwarven couple in the corner draw their knives. 'They'll never catch us alive!' they say in unison, and then kiss.

(From DM) Redspur and Bardolph jump out of their seats!

DM says, "And...."

DM exclaims, "INITIATIVE!!!!!"

Daisy says, "I say to the dwarves, "But nobody planned to attack you!"

Daisy rolls 1 20-sided die: 4 | 4 + 3 = 7

(From DM) Merey has run out to take care of Roscoe's injuries.

(From DM) Redspur lets go (still in fox form) and jumps onto a nearby table, still ready to attack if needed.

Daisy says, "I lower my crossbow and the thorns retract."

(From DM) Banner and Rylde, however, still have their daggers drawn.

(From DM) They run out of the inn before you can do anything, however.

Daisy asks, "What's with those dwarves anyway?"

(From DM) Bardolph limps forward. 'Is this bloody brawl over? Yeesh.'

Daisy says, "It is."

(From DM) 'Banner and Rylde? They're an old-school bandit couple,' Goldbeard replies, letting Celaeno go.

(From DM) He rubs his neck gingerly.

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "old-school, strictly 2E"

(From DM) Merey comes in, carrying Roscoe over her shoulder. She glares at y'all, says 'Better get out of my inn quick,' and disappears into the kitchen.

Celaeno leaves as requested.

Daisy follows.

Celaeno goes to that other inn in town.

[slingergame] DM exclaims, "Wait!"

(From DM) So you all head out with the intention of finding another inn...

(From DM) ... and find yourselves face to face with the Direfrost Guard.

Daisy says, "It's the fuzz!"

Celaeno says, "Hello again."

(From DM) Commissioner Brinestone coughs. 'I'm looking for some alleged pirates.'

(From DM) 'The Lord of Direfrost has just made a new edict about them.'

Daisy gasps. "Pirates? Here in Direforst?

Celaeno says, "Maybe Roscoe has seen them."

(From DM) 'What's all this blood?'

(From DM) 'Have you all been disturbing the peace?'

[slingergame] Daisy says, "I'm pretty sure I'm unbloodied."

Celaeno says, "Looks pretty peaceful to me."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Only a dwarf fell on me."

[slingergame] DM says, "heh"

(From DM) Brinestone coughs. 'Could you please have a glance at these documents?'

Celaeno says, "Yes sure fine."

(From DM) And she hands you a bunch of 'Wanted' posters.

Celaeno says, "We'll be out of town on the next outgoing tide."

[slingergame] Daisy asks, "Is it all of us?"

[slingergame] DM says, "Yep, even Redspur. (Who is still a fox, since she didn't have the time to grab her clothes.)"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "We'll be out of your hair, just need to steal a boat"

(From DM) Brinestone frowns. 'Out of town? I doubt that. Guards, arrest them.'

(From DM) And five guards start walking towards you, swords drawn!

Celaeno goes along quietly.

[slingergame] DM asks, "Okay, what is wrong with Celaeno?"

[slingergame] DM asks, "Or am I doing something wrong?"

[slingergame] Celaeno says, "nah, this is fine"

[slingergame] Celaeno says, "but she doesn't actually have a deathwish, so"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "It's says here on my sheet that I always follow my captain, so I too come along"

[slingergame] DM exclaims, "okay, that's actually excellent roleplaying. I give you Inspiration for this, Celaeno!"

[slingergame] Celaeno says, "alright thanks"

(From DM) 'Bardolph Greenhorn, step aside. Celaeno and Deadshot Daisy, thank you for so graciously surrendering, I'll mention that to Ethelbert. Goldbeard, Stiff, Stiff, and Stiff, surrender now or die.'

(From DM) Goldbeard roars: 'Nevaaaaaaah!' and runs at the guards, a scimitar in each hand.

(From DM) The three Stiffs run away while Goldbeard is slaughtering guards!

(From DM) 'Kill that dwarf!' Brinestone screams, wringing her hair.

Daisy asks (of Celaeno), "Should we take the chance to scram, then?"

[slingergame] DM says, "In two weeks? You bet."

Celaeno says, "Let's see how this plays out."

Daisy says, "That means us!"

Daisy says, "I raise my crossbow and shoot Goldbeard."

DM says, "Go for it."

Daisy says, "(Afer slapping it as before"

(From DM) He slices the two guards he'd just skewered, splattering Brinestone with blood. Her hair is ruined.

(From DM) '...it was fucking AWESOME!'

(From DM) And he dies, arms and legs splayed out in the crimson-splattered snow.

Daisy sniffs. "Gone out like of us ... er, them.

(From DM) The sun peeps through the clouds and makes his beard glisten like gold.

(From DM) The female elf Commissioner looks at her two dead guards, at her three terrified and injured ones, at dead Goldbeard, and then at y'all, Celaeno, Daisy, Bardolph and the fox.

(From DM) 'Well. Ahem.'

Daisy asks, "Was there a bounty?"

(From DM) 'Consider your lives as the bounty.'

(From DM) 'Now begone! And if you're still in town by sundown, I'll have no choice.'

Daisy nods. "Thank you"

Celaeno says, "Alright then."

(From DM) She makes a disgusted face as she pulls out someone's intestins from her hair. 'Yes, yes, don't thank me, just scram.'

Celaeno heads on down to the docks.

Daisy follows.

Daisy asks, "That went well, don't ya think?"

(From DM) Redspur disappears, and meets you again at the docks, in human form and dressed in clothes which don't fit her at all. 'That was intense!'

Daisy says, "Not really"

Celaeno says, "These violent delights have violent ends, they say"

(From DM) Bardolph points out a fisherman's boat. 'That's the Icebird. Metal hull, the works.'

Celaeno says, "But it'll keep the guard busy while we borrow Icebird here."

Daisy says, "Ah, maybe with it we can get a decent ship"

Celaeno says, "Let's check her out."

Daisy says, "Yeah"

(From DM) The Icebird is not big, but it looks very tough and is about the size of a yacht.

Daisy asks, "Is she seaworthy?"

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'I guess. Not that the Baron let me aboard, of course.'

Celaeno says, "Looks sound from here."

Celaeno says, "All aboard who's going aboard."

(From DM) Redspur jumps aboard, nearly falling into the water but catching onto a rope.

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'There's nothing here for me anyway. Captain, may I come?'

Daisy says, "I swing on board and climb the mast"

Celaeno says, "Sure, Bardolph. More hands are always appreciated."

(From DM) 'Thanks, Cap.'

(From DM) 'He swings aboard, and starts undoing the knots that link the boat to the pier.

Celaeno says, "Hold on there sport"

Celaeno quickly inspects the sails, what's going on belowdecks, etc.

[slingergame] DM says, "Roll investigation."

Celaeno rolls 1 20-sided die: 16 | 16 + 3 = 19

DM says (to Celaeno), "You find a bunch of barrels, some marked with WATER, some unmarked but impossible to open, and one which clearly contains apples. There are four hammocks tightly packed together. The sails look brand new. The anchor, you're pleased to see, is a solid metal one."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Cap! The wind's coming off the land, shall we catch it while it holds?'

Celaeno says, "Yes; cast off. Hoist the mainsail."

Daisy says, "I check out the unmarked barrels."

Celaeno says, "Let us never darken these shores again."

(From DM) Bardolph hoists the mainsail. 'Right ho, Cap.'

DM says (to Daisy), "They're very heavy and firmly shut."

Daisy asks, "Can I smell anything from then?"

Celaeno asks, "Does she seem to be rigged for actual fishing?"

DM says (to Daisy), "There's no organic smell of any sort from the inside. Probably not meat or food."

DM says (to Celaeno), "She seems to have once had a net, but someone removed it."

(From DM) Redspur sniffs the air. 'This is familiar -- wait, I get it, this is the boat they transported me on when they kidnapped me!'

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "I hope that hasn't reduced her ... net worth."

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "ahaaaaa"

Celaeno says, "How dreadful."

Daisy says, "But now ye are free, my fox friend. Ye are a pirate now!"

(From DM) Redspur says, 'Can I be a pirate and still go home to check on my parents? They live in Crimson City.'

Celaeno says, "Of course."

Daisy says, "Sounds good to me."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Crimson City? But no one's come back alive from there! Well, except for that crazy smuggler with the weird name, Odysses Raw or something.'

(From DM) Redspur frowns. 'Trust me, they won't hurt any of you, I'll tell them you're with me.'

Daisy asks, "Is it full of Werehumans?"

(From DM) Redspur laughs. 'It's full of *my* people. We're very good at hiding from the rest of the world.'

(From DM) 'Anyway, I'll show you where it is. Anyone got a map?'

[Crows-Nest] DM exclaims, "The dreaded word!"

Celaeno says, "There might be one around here somewhere. There might not."

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Ha ha"

Daisy goes hunting for a map.

DM exclaims (at Daisy), "Roll Investigation!"

Daisy rolls 1 20-sided die: 20 | 20 + 1 = 21

DM says (to Daisy), "You find a chest hidden in a nook in the wall, inside of which are a bunch of nautical charts. Two of them have red crosses on them."

Daisy asks, "You mean like an "X marks the spot" situation?"

DM says (to Daisy), "Yep."

Daisy says, "Capt'n! I found these here treasure maps"

Celaeno says, "Hmmm, interesting."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'You don't mind if I keep a hand on the helm while you all look at maps? Don't want to be crashing into no icebergs.'

Daisy says, "I would prefer not to be stuck on another one"

DM says, "'I'll just head for open sea, and then when you have a course set, just tell me.'"

Daisy asks, "Is one of the X's near Crimson City?"

Celaeno says, "Aye"

Celaeno says, "Maybe. It's hard to say."

DM says (to Daisy), "One of the X's is on a line between Direfrost and another, smaller red X on the Western Coast."

[slingergame] Daisy asks, "And is that the direction of Crimson City?"

(From DM) Redspur glances at the map. 'That line goes down the right direction, I think... but I think we should maybe stick to the coastline? It's kind of hidden by magic, anyway.'

Daisy says, "Aye, towards the X we go!"

Celaeno says, "That sounds prudent enough. They managed to find you at least once, though."

(From DM) Redspur shakes her head. 'I was further north, learning how to fish, when they caught me. I was just within sight of home.'

(From DM) 'I don't know what happened to the attend-- uh, to the other person.'

(From DM) 'It happened kind of fast.'

Daisy says, "Soon ye will be home again."

(From DM) 'Yeah, thank you, Daisy. Anyway, I'm going to get myself something to eat. Didn't get to finish my meal.'

(From DM) And Redspur disappears belowdecks.

Daisy says, "Say, does anyone have a crowbar? I'm hella curious about dem barrels"

Celaeno says, "They are unusual."

(From DM) Bardolph calls out, 'Sun's going down, Cap! Want to take over?'

Daisy says, "If nobody has a crowbar, I search the ship for a tool. A boathoak or something"

Celaeno says, "I've got the helm, matey. Go grab a bite and try to keep Daisy from putting any new holes in the hull."

(From DM) 'Right ho, Cap.'

(From DM) Bardolph comes along with Daisy belowdecks.

(From DM) 'So,' the grim-faced fisherman says, as he rummages through another chest filled with empty vials, 'did you notice anything strange when I -- when I rescued you?'

[slingergame] DM asks, "Daisy?"

[slingergame] Alex says (to DM), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that Daisy is Mick's dog."

Daisy asks, "Not really. What do ye mean?"

(From DM) Bardolph shrugs. 'Nothing.'

Daisy says, "I heard the iceberg hit ye ship and then some seagulls or somethings. Great big kerfuffle of wings"

Daisy tries to get at the barrels with a dagger.

(From DM) 'Ah, yes, seagulls,' Bardolph says hastily. 'Silly things.'

DM says (to Daisy), "Roll STR"

Daisy rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 2 = 14

(From DM) The dagger makes only a faint scratch.

Daisy says, "These be some tough barrels"

Daisy asks (of Bardolph), "Hm? What do ye mean?"

(From DM) Bardolph coughs awkwardly. 'Uh, Daisy, could you go and check on the Captain? He sounds awfully quiet.'

[slingergame] Daisy says, "narrows her eyes. "The captain is just fine. Now spill the beans before you become the latest foul-smelling fish to be gutted on this boat.""

(From DM) 'Just, um, step a little aside. This might be a bit clumsy since I haven't done this in a while.'

(From DM) 'Be ready to duck.'

Daisy gets ready to duck.

(From DM) And then naked Bardolph grits his teeth as feathers start bursting through his skin! His nose fuses with his mouth into a beak. Talons form on his naked heels.

Daisy says, "I'll be ...!"

(From DM) His arms turn into wings, and when the transformation is complete, he is now a giant eagle, unsteady and wings apart.

(From DM) AWK!

Daisy says, "*gulp*"

(From DM) Redspur nearly chokes on her apple.

[slingergame] Daisy says, "hides Capt'n Blacktail in her armor."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Dang"

Daisy hides Capt'n Blacktail in her armor.

(From DM) With one of his talons, eagle Bardolph grabs a barrel, the one which still bears a scratch from Daisy's dagger.

DM rolls 1 20-sided die: 10 | 10 + 3 = 13

DM says, "The eagle is annoyed that this does nothing."

Daisy says, "Maybe we should try together"

(From DM) He nods.

Daisy rolls 1 20-sided die: 19 | 19 + 2 = 21

(From DM) The eagle strikes the lid with his beak.

DM rolls 1 20-sided die: 4 | 4 + 5 = 9

(From DM) The combined effort (most of which came from Daisy, ironically) opens the barrel, and gold coins pour out.

Daisy says, "Ooooooh"

Daisy says, "Hey, Captain Celaeno! Them barrels be full of gold"

(From DM) The eagle is not as enthused by the sight of gold as Daisy is, still feeling a little hurt that it wasn't able to display its full strength.

Celaeno says, "Arrrrrr well that be good."

Celaeno says, "Mayhaps it's payment for the hostage"

[slingergame] Daisy asks, "Can I tell where the coins are from?"

[slingergame] DM says, "You can roll Investigation."

Daisy rolls 1 20-sided die: 4 | 4 + 1 = 5

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "My new catchphrase: 'Roll Investigation'"

Daisy says, "Are, them be silver coins"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "Arrr, they're filled with chocolate"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "hahahah"

(From DM) It's getting dark belowdecks. No one thought to light a lantern, nor is there any.

[Crows-Nest] DM asks (of Celaeno), "Are you sure about manning the ship through the night with only 4 HP?"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "I guess those humans feel pretty stupid right now"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "Not really"

Daisy says, "I'll take her"

Celaeno says, "All yours"

Celaeno finds a corner to sleep on one leg.

Daisy says, "Oh, and Bardolph is also one of your kind"

Celaeno says, "Okay great."

(From DM) Bardolph transforms back and puts his clothes on.

(From DM) Redspur curls up in fox form in one of the hammocks, and falls asleep.

Daisy takes the wheel. It's good to be at sea again on something that isn't cold.

DM says (to Daisy), "And the night passes without much incident. There are icebergs, and a few bumps here and there, but no damage (thanks to the Icebird's metal hull)."

(From DM) When the sun rises, you're already out of the mist and along the Western Coast: that epic long stretch of basalt mountains and grassy bays.

Daisy enjoys the scenery.

(From DM) Redspur, getting out of the hammock, says, 'I'm feeling a bit thirsty. Do we have water?'

Celaeno says, "Nicely done, Daisy. You've a good hand for this,."

Daisy asks, "Aye, two barrels I think. But do we have food?"

Daisy beams. "Thank ye, captain. It's been a while."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Actually, about the water, Cap....'

Celaeno says, "Yes"

(From DM) 'I was thirsty during the night, so I got out of my hammock to take a drink, and well...'

(From DM) Bardolph shakes his head. 'Not water, Cap. It's troll piss.'

Celaeno says, "That won't do."

Daisy says, "Ewww."

Daisy says, "Why would they carry troll piss."

(From DM) 'They use that to make illegal drugs, I think.'

Celaeno says, "Keep a weather eye out for a river and we'll make shore."

Daisy says, "Aye captain. I'll grab some sleep, havin' been up all night."

Celaeno says, "Take on some fresh water, maybe find some food."

Celaeno says, "Of course, Daisy."

Daisy says, "Me spell slots, ye see."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Since I don't need to hide who I am anymore, I guess it's up to me to go scouting for a river.'

(From DM) He starts undressing.

Daisy rolls up in a corner, while Blacktail rolls up on her legs.

(From DM) Then he does this thing where he runs off the side of the boat in mid transformation.

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "That CGI looks hella fake"

Celaeno says, "Okee thankssssss...."

(From DM) But kind of forgets that the boat isn't that high above the water, and it's a wet giant eagle who rises up, flapping its wings.

(From DM) And eagler Bardolph flies off to look for a river.

DM asks, "Time passes. The eagle is still gone. What do you do?"

Daisy says, "zZzzz"

Celaeno says, "Keep sailing up the coast"

DM rolls 12-sided dice: 5 | 5 + d8 = 5

Celaeno says, "Check the charts every once in a while"

DM says, "You spot some debris floating in the water."

Celaeno steers around it

(From DM) It looks like charred pieces of wood from some sort of ship, and you avoid it easily.

(From DM) Redspur practices swinging around the ship from rope to rope, making 'AARRR' noises.

(From DM) And finally the eagle returns. He tries to transform back into Bardolph while flying down to land, and ends up crashing into the mast, stark naked.

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "That's the most important part of being a pirate"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "Any landing you can walk away from"

Celaeno asks, "Anything ahead?"

(From DM) 'Dammit,' Bardolph groans, getting dressed. 'What would my ancestors say if they saw me smacking into obstacles like a chicken?'

Celaeno says, "probably BEEEECAWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwww"

(From DM) 'Oh, uh, Cap. There's a bay just after that mountain ridge that goes straight down into the sea.'

Celaeno says, "Okay, good"

(From DM) 'It's a soft beach and there's a river and sheep.'

(From DM) 'I tried to bring you one but I couldn't resist and I, uh, stopped to eat.'

(From DM) 'That was why I took longer, Cap.'

Celaeno says, "We're all slaves to our own desires, alas."

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Does he say it ... sheepishly? HA HA HA"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "heh"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "At least he didn't try to pull the wool over our eyes"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "It wouldn't beehove him"

DM says (to Celaeno), "Roll Navigation for going around the underwater mountain ridge."

Celaeno rolls 1 20-sided die: 7 | 7

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "I love these jokes. You're all great :)"

DM exclaims (at Celaeno), "The Icebird gets stuck!"

Celaeno says, "Whoops"

(From DM) Redspur says, 'At least we're not sinking!'

Celaeno says, "That's true."

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Dips on the door"

Celaeno says, "When the wind comes around we should float off"

(From DM) The ship is wedged between two rocks sticking out of the sea, and you're within swimming distance of the coast.

Celaeno says, "Is there a lifeboat or something"

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'I could maybe carry one of you, or two.'

(From DM) 'But that won't get the ship unstuck, will it?'

Celaeno says, "I dunno; you ate the last thing you carried"

(From DM) Bardolph looks sheepish.

(From DM) Redspur has an idea. 'What if we go into the water and try breaking the rocks a bit, make a bit of room so we can free the ship?'

Celaeno says, "Sure, that could work."

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'I'll do my best. We'll need weapons, like swords or hammers or whatever.'

(From DM) 'I'll use my beak.'

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "Cue the A-Team teambuilding montage"

(From DM) So, you all go into the water, except for Redspur.

Daisy says, "zzZZzzz"

Celaeno says, "Not nearly as frigid here"

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'Yep, Cap.'

(From DM) He turns into an eagle and treads water.

Celaeno says, "So, yeah, try your enormous... pecker... beak."

DM asks, "So, I guess you stuck every inch of your clothing with diamonds, heh?"

Celaeno says, "Yes"

DM says, "Awesome."

DM exclaims, "So you swim out of the cavern and back through the water and back onto the Icebird, which has drifted slightly but not that much. At least it's no longer stuck!"

Celaeno says, "Huzzah"

Daisy says, "Woohoo"

Celaeno says, "We wouldn't have left without you"

(From DM) Redspur wraps herself in a blanket. 'Thank you.'

[slingergame] DM exclaims, "Less than ten minutes to go!"

Daisy says, "I check out the sword"

Celaeno checks out how great she looks now.

DM says (to Daisy), "As you hold the sword, you hear it whisper to you."

DM says, "YOU ARE WORTHY."

[slingergame] DM exclaims, "And it's a +1 magic sword!"

[slingergame] DM says, "Now you can handle melee as well as ranged attacks."

Daisy says, "Capt'n, you are into melee, right? I think you should have it"

Celaeno says, "Thanks but I'm more of a rapier person"

(From DM) Bardolph groans, coming back to the world of the living. Seeing Redspur, he sighs with relief.

Celaeno says, "Keep it; it looks good on you"

Daisy says, "Okay then"

[slingergame] Daisy says, "But this girl is skilled for ranged combat"

DM says (to Daisy), "The sword whispers KAELYN. WHAT A LOVELY NAME. TOGETHER WE SHALL WIN."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "KInd of a waste to give it to me"

[slingergame] DM says (to Daisy), "Don't worry. It's all part of the plan..."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Maybe the puppet guy can use it"

(From DM) The Icebird is drifting out to sea.

Daisy asks, "hey sword, what's your name?"

Celaeno sets sail for yonder bay.

(From DM) I HAVE HAD MANY NAMES. BUT MY FAVOURITE REMAINS... LIGHTBRINGER.

(From DM) As you're all sailing, and as Redspur eats an apple, while Bardolph nurses his own injuried, there is a sound.

Daisy asks, "Okay, listen, we are not really sword folk here, but I promise we gonna find someone who can make good use of you?"

(From DM) I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MEANT TO BE PASSED ON. SUCH IS MY DESTINY.

(From DM) Redspur looks up. 'Are those... drums?'

(From DM) Bardolph says, 'I hear it too.'

Daisy says, "Uh-oh"

(From DM) You hear a drumming sound coming over the waves.

(From DM) And you look in the direction of the open sea, from whence the sound comes.

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "That's a dope beat"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "Are, these people are on a house boat"

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "aww works on so many levels"

(From DM) There is a large galley ship on the horizon, sporting an all-too-familiar black flag. Drummers are hitting war drums, next to large canons protruding from either side. They've tied someone to the mast, someone whose hands are free, and apparently (although you disbelieve it) having a hand puppet on each hand.

(From DM) And standing at the front of the ship is a tall figure with a messed-up face.

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno asks, "Sarah Jessica Parker?"

DM says (to Daisy), "You squint, think you recognize the face behind the deformed features."

(From DM) Redspur tosses you a spyglass, and you look again.

(From DM) It's... no, it can't be...

Daisy says, "Oh no, I knew it!"

(From DM) One-Hook Burton, somehow alive!

(From DM) 'RAAAAAAAAAAARRRR!' he growls. 'FULL SPEED AHEAD! KILL THEM ALL!'

DM says, "To be continued."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "That was pretty awesome!"

[slingergame] DM says, "Thanks."

[Crows-Nest] Celaeno says, "One-Hook is also his DM plotting style nickname"

[Crows-Nest] Daisy says, "he he"

[slingergame] Celaeno exclaims, "yeah good times!"

[slingergame] Celaeno says, "I'm trying to shake off some early strep throat here"

[slingergame] DM says, "I can't believe I packed more than two encounters AND managed to get us to the cliffhanger I planned."

[slingergame] DM says, "All within the time limit."

[slingergame] DM says (to Celaeno), "We believe in you. Your immune system will win."

[slingergame] Daisy says, "Get well, Celaeno"

[slingergame] DM says, "I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Stay tuned for Episode 2: The Epic Sea Chase And Naval Battle (With Hand Puppets), next week, same time."

[slingergame] DM says, "And, with your permission, I'll be heading off to bed."

[slingergame] Celaeno says, "I might be an hour late next week but I might not"

[slingergame] Celaeno exclaims, "yep gnight!"
