GM exclaims, "Welcome back for the next session of CROWNSFORD CRUSADERS!"
Wanda is trapped in a force field!
GM says, "The last time we saw our heroes, they had just arrived on an alien world! Their friends were unconscious, fast asleep, around them. And they're surrounded by very confused locals."
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "Had they un-force-fielded Wanda?"
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "Or is that the obvious first step?"
GM exclaims, "But the force field has been restored, and only one Raxiss pod -- crashed nearby -- made it through. And speaking of force fields, the Umawa have managed to capture one Raxiss inside one *right here*!"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "That 'one Raxiss' being everyone's favorite fire spider, Wanda."
Harry says, "This is amazing! We're really on an alien world!"
Harry says, "And these readings are amazing! I had no idea the cerebral resonator was capable of so much!"
Eben says (to Raxiss), "(in halting Raxiss) Hello! Thuma brought us here with new Chagakor for you. And that Raxiss is our friend, who helped."
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says (to eben), "Good thing we gave all that data to the one responsible corportation in the world"
[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "Next scenario: the Crusaders fight Jeff Bezos"
Cuddlepaws asks (of wanda), "See how it feels when you're not allowed outside? SEE HOW IT FEELS?"
Wanda exclaims (at CP), "It's not funny!"
GM says (to Eben), "Without translators, they don't seem to quite catch all of that, but they recognize enough to understand that you, Jacob, CP and Harry must be with Thuma."
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Oh, right, translators."
Elder says, "<Incromprehensible> Thuma <gibberish> thank you <confused gibberish> Raxiss <pointing at Wanda> friend? <head shaking>"
Eben gently takes a translator from the sleeping Batyi, and offers it to whoever seems like they might be in charge.
Eben says, "Yes! Friend. Found as baby. Raised as my granddaughter."
Eben waves his arms around helpfully.
Cuddlepaws tries the ultimate sign of goodwill, rubs against the leg of a Batyi and purrs.
[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "They're Umawas! The Batyi are from Saturn"
Gutha says, "What is this thing? It speaks... is it speaking your words for you?"
Eben says, "Yes! I built it! Batyi helped."
Gutha says, "We thank you, visitors, for bringing your Chagakor to us. We are very grateful for your present."
Eben says (to Gutha), "It's for, um, borrowing? We need to get your own Chagakor back from Raxiss."
Eben asks, "Speaking of, the crashed pod--we go capture pilot? Ask him where it is?"
Gutha says, "Ah! You will go to the Raxiss? You must know that they are very dangerous. They choose to harm, on purpose. And have learned to do so very well."
Eben says, "Yeah, we're familiar with the concept."
Cuddlepaws says (to eben), "Maybe free Wanda first and take this one step at a time."
Gutha says, "Beware this one here -- there are stories that they can affect one's mind. This one may have deceived you into thinking it is your friend."
Eben asks, "Can you release Wanda?"
Gutha says, "That does not seem wise, visitor."
Eben says, "That is a reasonable precaution! But no, I've known Wanda since she was a baby."
Eben says, "Read her stories when she was small."
Cuddlepaws says (to gutha), "She does not have the power of other Raxiss."
Gutha says, "How is this? Are there Raxiss on your world, as well?"
Eben says, "Just her, as far as we know."
Eben says, "She was in a pod that crashed many years ago."
Wanda exclaims, "My mother was!"
Wanda says, "I never knew her though."
Wanda says, "Maybe... that was for the best after all."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "This feels like a good opportunity for a Rapport -- oh, what's that called, the thing that's not a Challenge or a Conflict."
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "Overcome?"
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "Overcome?"
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "Contest!"
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "Isn't a contest the same thing as a conflict...?"
Eben says (to Wanda), "I believe your mother escaped what was becoming an oppressive society; one that would attack these Umawa. She didn't want that for herself or for you, and left."
Eben says, "At least, that's my working theory."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "A Contest is a situation where two sides are trying to do something, but neither side is trying to harm the other. E.g., a race."
Wanda says (to Eben), "I like that story better. I hope it's true."
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "In this case, you're both trying very hard to be helpful to each other! They want to protect you from this evil spider, while you want to free her!"
Cuddlepaws says (to wanda), "She also probably ate your father, because that's that spiders do."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Each side will alternate making Rapport checks against the other until one side gets three successes! Style counts for two."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "Aha"

Eben mimes squirting Cuddlepaws with a spray bottle.

[CCrusaders] GM asks, "Unless you invoke anything else to turn it into a victory?"

GM exclaims, "You hear a scream, and when you look, you see an injured Raxiss soldier crawling toward you from the direction of the crashed pod!"
[CCrusaders] GM asks, "Round two of the conflict! What do you do?"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "I presume Wanda can talk to it, but maybe I can, too? Hm."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I haven't been able to communicate with Raxiss so far"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Though my rapport continues to be terrible. But it's an animal-like creature."
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims (at Jacob), "Ooh! I did let you get away with using your animal-speak to get a bonus on communicating with humanoid aliens, so it seems only fair to give you at *least8 that much in talking to non-humanoid ones. So, yes!"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Then I'm going to try my best to communicate with it before it attacks us. Rapport, I suppose. I don't really have a bonus on non-bird creatures, though."
[CCrusaders] GM asks, "How does that work exactly, by the way? Are you speaking in English, and it's being psychically translated in their brain? Or are you psychically inferring how to speak their language from them?"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "I, uh. I don't know. it's not telepathic, though. It's called "zoological polyglot", so I imagine I just know how to speak their language."
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "OK! Go for it!"
[Crows-Nest] Cuddlepaws says, "She has swatted enough housespiders to understand their pathetic cries for mercy"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Also, do you have the Cerebral Resonator aspect on there, from the first session? (I may have named it slightly differently...)"

Wanda says (to Gutha), "Thank you! I know I'm scary."
Soldier says, "<You tricked me! You said you wouldn't fight me>"
Gutha says, "We will trust you... for now."
Wanda says, "Fair enough."
Jacob says, "I said we wouldn't hurt you. This is for both of our protection."
Wanda pats Cuddlepaws on the head gently with a pedipalp
Eben asks (of Wanda), "Can you understand him? Or her?"
Eben asks (of Gutha), "Can you understand the pilot? Would they understand you?"
Soldier growns and belligerently bleeds ichor.
[CCrusaders] GM says, "*growls"
[Crows-Nest] Eben exclaims, "Such behavior from a grown spider like you!"
Jacob asks, "Are you in pain? Can we help in some way?"
Gutha says, "I do not understand their language. I suspect that some of them understand ours, but I do not know if this one does or not."
[Crows-Nest] Jacob says, "I guess they're behind a force field, so probably not"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "I should have offered earlier"
Wanda asks (of Eben), "Weirdly enough, I think I have an intuition for this language... Genetic memory? I'm not sure?"
Eben says, "Fascinating."
Soldier says, "<Are you a doctor? Do you have a medical kit?>"
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "Hmm. Could we cauterize his wounds with fire?"
Eben asks (of Wanda), "Can you translate while they talk?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "As in, very small controlled flames?"
Jacob asks whats-her-name (I can't scroll up on Macbook), "Do you have a medical kit?"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Hmm. I think, A) yes, B) it would be a Lore check, and C) it would increase the difficulty, because that is really not the normal way of healing someone."
[Crows-Nest] Eben says, "(Gutha)"

[Crows-Nest] Jacob says, "Haha, ok"
Wanda says (to Eben), "I can always try..."
Gutha says, "We have bandages, and some herbs that can stop infection or reduce pain."
Gutha points to the elder next to her. "I am no healer myself, but Bugau has studied these things."
Jacob says, "Would they be willing to help the pilot? If not, I can do it."
Cuddlepaws says, "If I lick my wounds, it makes me feel better. Not sure if it works on others."
Cuddlepaws says, "When I do it to Eben in the middle of the night, he usually doesn't for some reason."
GM says, "Gutha confers with Bugau for a moment."
Gutha says, "He says yes, of course he would be willing to help you."
Eben asks (of Cuddlepaws), "Wait, does that mean you've been quicksilvered, too?"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "By which I mean, yes, he'll give you a +1 on your roll."
Cuddlepaws says (to eben), "Of course not"
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Oh, I thought he meant he'd be willing to heal *Jacob*."
Eben says, "Thank goodness."
Jacob asks, "Ok. Can y'all drop the force field to let me approach the raxiss?"
Eben says, "Or expand it so all three of them are there? Actually, me too. I'll keep an eye on things."
Cuddlepaws gets round to lunge a rock at him if he makes trouble.
Jacob says (to Pilot), "May I approach you? I'm not a doctor, but I'm sure I can help."
Wanda follows after Jacob.
Pilot sneers. "Of course you can..."
Jacob says, "If you try anything funny, my friends will get very angry."
GM says, "As you approach the force field, an opening appears in it..."
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "So lore is +4, plus the help from Bugau, so +5"

Jacob nods. "You're welcome." And then ducks back out of the force field.
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "I literally have a degree in animals."
GM exclaims, "...and as he does, the Pilot tries to leap through with him!"
[CCrusaders] Wanda exclaims, "I'll stop him!"
[CCrusaders] GM asks, "OK! How?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "Takedown! Pin him to the ground."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "(Like in rugby)"
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "OK! You defend with Physique against his Athletics!"

Wanda was watching Jacob and the pilot, worried for Jacob's safety, and sure enough she spotted the familiar coiling of the legs that always comes before a jump. After all, she knows her athletics. And having anticipated the leap the Raxiss pilot was about to make, she moves almost at the same time and came down on him just before he could escape, pinning him down with all eight legs, her fiery fangs just inches from his recently bandaged thorax.
Gutha says (to Wanda), "Thank you, strange one! I suppose it was indeed right to trust you."
Pilot says, "<What the &#&@ are you doing? Whose side are you on?>"
Cuddlepaws exclaims (at wanda), "Bring him back into the shield! I'll close it!"
Jacob glares angrily at the pilot in a way that words just cannot convey.
Wanda says (to Cuddlepaws), "I'll make sure he doesn't escape! I'm much stronger than he is, anyway"
Wanda says (to Pilot), "*in an attempt to speak Raxiss, albeit garbled* THEY are my family. They protect me and I protect them. Nothing personal."
Eben says (to Gutha), "See? Her name's 'Wanda'. Oh, and I'm Eben."
Wanda drags Pilot back into the custody of the force field.
Gutha says, "Welcome, Eben! I am Gutha. This is my husband, Bugau."
GM says, "And then she names several other elders who are also here."
Cuddlepaws exclaims, "Hello, blue elders!"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I assume my Earth accent was too thick for the Raxiss, or he was too contemptuous/hurt to reply"
Pilot says, "<You are a traitor to our people! You may look like... but you are no one of us.>"
