[peregaming] Bert says, "Log on."
Roger has arrived.
[peregaming] GM asks, "So, questions?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Apart from the far that your mode of transportation will fall to pieces upon arrival."
[peregaming] GM says, "*fact"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Why was the Holy Roman Empire neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Because it is natural in human endeavors for long-standing institutions to gradually evolve over time."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Mild and Moderate consequences have started recovering now, right?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Well, we ended in the middle of a scene (desert biking)"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Does that mean we don't get the Minor Milestone yet?"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "But stress from my home universe is gone?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Stress should be gone by now, yeah"
[peregaming] GM |Mild consequence: Clear it at the end of the scene, provided you get a chance to rest.
[peregaming] GM |Moderate consequence: Clear it at the end of the next session, provided it makes sense within the story.
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Did we get a chance to rest after we came back and chatted with Soulmonger II?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Oh, you're following FAE rules for that?"
[peregaming] Jack isn't sure if desert biking counts as resting or not.
[peregaming] GM asks, "Oh, do you prefer the full FATE rules?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "I'm fine either way."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I just want to know the state of my consequences :)"
[peregaming] GM says, "Well, you didn't get a chance to rest yet, but depending on whether you get back to RONIN you'll probably get patched up"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(we also might have reasonably rested *in* the other universe before coming back)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hmm, that's a good point."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "so, stress gone, consequences still around?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "We did hang around chatting with Quint and stuff."
[peregaming] GM asks, "I thought you guys faded out somewhat unexpectedly and dramatically?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Sure."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "So, to confirm: you're saying that the moderates will go away at the end of this session, but the milds are still present until we get a more proper rest?"
[peregaming] GM says, "That's it in a nutshell."
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "OK!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(I didn't know that was going to be as complicated a question as it was :) )"
[peregaming] GM says, "It's okay"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "So, I believe that when we last left our heroes, we had just left Smiley out in the desert standing next to where the tunnel used to be, and were in the process of driving off into the sunset on our bike, with Brenda and Mallory in tow?"
Quellynne calls Quint to figure out what's going on and how to help.
GM says (to Quellynne), "Quint's voice is breaking up. 'We've been forced back into the lower level --the unfinished area -- Winslowe is -- no way out --'"
GM says (to Quellynne), ""--hello? do you copy --""
Jack asks, "How did they even find out where we were?"
Quellynne exclaims, "We're on our way!"
Quellynne says (to Jack), "That's an excellent question."
Quellynne asks (of Quint), "What kind of opposition are you facing?"
GM says (to Quellynne), ""--CIA agents -- super technology -- they called in some ex-military guys -- they've got the entrance covered with their helicopters --""
GM says (to Quellynne), ""--and they have Winslowe in some kind of super suit -- ""
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Should I remember who 'Winslowe' is?"
Quellynne asks (of Quint), "Can you seal off the entrance to your level and escape out the canyon?"
Quellynne says, "I mean, the base itself is obviously compromised now; no sense trying to take it back over."
Quellynne asks, "We could try to distract them while you leave?"
GM says (to Quellynne), ""--a diversion? That could work! But we'd need you to get some transportation for us --""
[peregaming] Quellynne asks (of GM), "How many people do we need to transport?"
[peregaming] GM says, "I'd say around 15. No more than 15."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Is this all on speakerphone? (Is that even plausible if we're on he highway?)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(We are on the highway I'm assuming, right?)"
[peregaming] GM says, "I thought you were in open desert."
Jack says (to Quellynne), "Let's steer toward the highway. Maybe we can find a bus or something."
Quellynne says (to Brenda&Mallory), "Can you guys get some transportation for the people in the base? They're pinned down in the lower levels."
Brenda says, "I've got enough power to fly into a helicopter, I could hijack that with Mallory's help."
Mallory says, "*plplp* if you let me eat the pilot sure *whirr*"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Mallory seems, if anything, to have gotten *more* evil since we've tried to reform her."
Quellynne exclaims, "Oh, for... No! Don't eat the pilot!"
Quellynne asks, "A 15 person helicopter?"
[peregaming] Roger asks, "that's a giant spider or something, right?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "She is, at the moment, a blob in a tank."
[peregaming] GM says, "A tank on robot spider leg."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Although -- right."
Brenda says, "15 person helic-- oh."
Quellynne says, "Or 17, I guess, with the two of you."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "So apparently my 'hijack a bus' idea isn't passing muster?"
Brenda says, "Jack, can't you teleport people?"
Jack asks, "Does a helicopter have a trunk?"
Jack glances at Mallory.
Mallory says, "*plplpl* *noncommital silence* *whirr*"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I am better at distracting people than getting them to safety; in the interest of not splitting the party, my thought was to have Jack and I distract, while M&B helped transport."
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "But if we want to split the party, we can do that!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Hmm, on the other hand, what about the attack force? Would they have any large vehicles?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Probably."
[peregaming] GM says, "Since they'd have to have come from *somewhere*, and not on foot."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Maybe some kind of personell transport truck."
[peregaming] GM says, "Sure."
[peregaming] Jack says, "So we could just head in and play it by ear."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Keeping an eye out for both opportunities for distraction and rescue as they came up."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "OK, if that's how you wanna play!"
[peregaming] GM guitar riff
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Quellynne), "What do you think?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(This doesn't rule out assigning B+M to rescue duty once we've found an appropriate way to do it.)"
Quellynne asks, "Should we start by being sneaky, so we can get some sort of transport away from the group?"
Mallory says, "*plplpl* sneaky sneak *whirr*"
Jack asks, "Good idea -- how good are you at sneaking on a motorcycle?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Especially one that's about to fall apart."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "As we near, can I use Create Advantage with Notice to size up the situation, to see what our best angle for approach is?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "That's an excellent idea!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "OK! What's the opposition for that?"
Jack rolls Great (4) + 4dF: +1 0 -1 +1 | Superb (5)
[peregaming] GM says, "Opposition +3, because you're sneaking rather than jumping --"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Success!"
[peregaming] GM says, "darn, you rolled before I finished typing."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hee."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I got impatient :)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "It's all right! You have a Tactical View!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "The dice haven't been rolled for a week, and they were calling for me."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Beware the dice, their siren song can be deceptive!"
Jack points out the nearest enemy units to Quellynne, and some good openings where we might sneak past them.
Jack sets his current fate point total to 2.
Quellynne nods, hops off the motorcycle, and zips over to a somewhat ignored troop transport shuttle.
Jack waits for a moment with Brenda and Mallory to see how this is going to go before he barges in.
GM says (to Jack), "As Q hop off the motorcyle, it falls apart. Malice rolls out upside down with spider legs in the dust."
GM says, "(uh, with spider legs in the air)"
[peregaming] GM asks, "How far are you? Is the motorcycle behind cover?"
Jack pockets one of the time core rods that didn't completely burn out, just in case it might come in handy later.
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "That sounds like it might be a Stealth Defend roll that Quellynne could make retroactively when needed!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Oho"
Brenda levitates Mallory back onto her little spidery legs.
Mallory follows Quellynne.
GM rolls Good (3) + 4dF: +1 -1 0 +1 | Great (4)
[peregaming] GM says, "Can Q defend with Stealth, please :D"
Quellynne rolls Fair (2) + 4dF: +1 0 -1 0 | Fair (2)
[peregaming] GM says, "Oh dear."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I think I am going to spend a fate point to get a stunt I've been thinking of anyway: Add +2 to stealth when speed would be helpful."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "You mean, spend a refresh?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Right."
[peregaming] Jack says, "That seems really appropriate."
[peregaming] GM says, "I approve."
[peregaming] Quellynne does so!
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "That's a tie!"
Quellynne finally realizes that if she's *fast* that means she can *hide better*.
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I forget what ties do in this case, but whatever it is, I'll take it."
Quellynne sets their current fate point total to 1.
[peregaming] GM says, "I too have lost that handy chart Jota made."
[peregaming] GM is sad.
[peregaming] Jack goes hunting!
[peregaming] Jack says, "https://www.dropbox.com/s/wy2euitamqw4d25/Actions%20Cheat%20Sheet.docx?dl=0 is a Word doc."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I think I had another format, but I'm not sure where off the top of my head."
[peregaming] Jack says, "If the bad guys were doing an Overcome, a tie means they succeed with a minor cost."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Life finds a way!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Or in this case, the CIA"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "If that was a Stealth Defend, that means they get a boost."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "But I am still stealthy?"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Like, I'm in an Awkward Position until they move around?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Ooh, I like that."
[peregaming] GM says, "That's more interesting than just 'oops, you're not stealty any more'"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "SO they haven't technically spotted you, but you're also stuck until either they do or you find a way out of the situation?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "What can we see from where Brenda and I are?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oh, also, don't forget you have a free invoke on Tactical View if needed."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Since we did intentionally choose an approach that would be optimal under the circumstances."
GM says (to Jack), "From your vantage point behind some cacti, you see a circle of black vans around the uncovered entrance to the mine, which was formerly camouflaged and is now blasted open (probably by explosives)"
GM says (to Jack), "Two helicopters have landed also."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Can I see where Quellynne went, or the people who may or may not have spotted her?"
[peregaming] GM says, "I'd say yes."
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Quellynne), "You mentioned heading toward an ignored troop transport shuttle. Do you think you're behind it? Inside it?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(And I assume it's no longer nearly so ignored as it was before.)"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Or... underneath it?"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "How about under it?"
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "Timing!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Psychic powers!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Ooh."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Hey, you know that bike that just self-destructed?"
[peregaming] GM says, "It makes sense: they came around, she rolled super fast under it"
[peregaming] GM asks (of Jack), "yes?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Presumably the very-advanced components it was jury-rigged together from are possibly a bit unstable now."
[peregaming] GM says, "Naturally so. I sense a cool idea..."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Do you think one might explode if I snapped off the restraining bolt and threw it?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Might be a very unpredictable sort of explosion, but yes!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Excellent!"
Jack takes that core rod that he pocketed earlier, snaps off the end, and throws it at a vehicle that Quellynne *isn't* hiding under!
[peregaming] Jack says, "My main goal here is distraction for Q. Any collateral damage is welcome but not the primary purpose."
[peregaming] GM says, "I'd say you'll have no problem with the distraction part: just need to roll to make sure no one notices *where* the rod is coming from"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Stealth?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Yep, +1 since you're already hidden."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "There was a Boost from the Crafts roll when we built the bike; can I use that?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
Jack rolls Good (3) + 4dF: +1 +1 +1 +1 | Epic (7)
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Muahaha!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "I create the SECRETEST EXPLOSION EVER."
[peregaming] GM says, "They'll never know what happened."
[peregaming] GM says, "Narrate at will! (knowing that with quantum shenanigans your 'explosion' could have pretty much any effect)"
(From Jack) THe glowing rod, fluxing with temporal energy, strikes the rock face, riccochets off a someone's helment, and lands underneath a humvee. Everyone is looking around wondering what just happened, when BOOM!
[peregaming] Jack says, "Assuming that was an Overcome, I'm going to call our boost CHAOS."
Quellynne uses the distraction to slip out from under the transport, zip into the driver's seat, put the thing in neutral so it starts coasting down the hill.
[Setting the zoned flag.]
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(Assuming that the explosion wiped the opponents' boost)"
[peregaming] GM says, "It did"
[peregaming] GM says, "It wiped that boost OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH"
[peregaming] GM asks, "What's the next phase of this daring plan?"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Did we get the transport away, or should I roll something, or...?"
[Crows-Nest] (from GM) Jack says, 'Recruit Spider-Man.'
[peregaming] GM says (to Quellynne), "Well, you had a sizeable distraction; that would depend on where you're taking this thing"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Away so they don't notice when we start driving it around to the back entrance."
[peregaming] GM asks, "Hm, do mines have back entrances?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I posited a way out 'into the canyon' in my own world; dunno if it exists in this one ;-)"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "And if not, how fast can you dig?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Or Mallorenda can dig out a hole themselves ;-)"
[peregaming] GM says, "By using TK to move boulders? A possibility."
[Crows-Nest] GM has sudden Last Jedi flashback.
[peregaming] Jack says, "I wasn't entirely joking about the 'how fast can you dig' comment."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Because trying to dig a hole that deep with a shovel certainly seems like an Athletics roll."
[peregaming] Jack says, "And, sure, the Overcome to do it in a reasonable amount of time would be abusrd -- you might even call it *superhuman* -- but yet..."
[peregaming] GM says, "I would allow that."
[peregaming] GM says, "The opposition would be +10, +9 if Brenda assists by moving away the rubble with TK"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oh, also:"
Jack takes Brenda's hand and teleports into the troop transport as Quellynne drives it away.
[peregaming] GM says, "smooth"
GM exclaims, "So the four of you drive to the canyon in a stolen troop transport shuttle, while everyone is bewildered by the 'fireworks'!"
GM says, "Mallory is disappointed there wasn't any driver to 'absorb'."
GM says, "You guys know the layout of the mines -- the question now is how to create an escape route for your fellow RONIN."
Jack asks (of Quellynne), "So this is where the canyon exit is in your world?"
Brenda says, "Looks like they didn't dig it in this one. How can we get to them now?"
Quellynne looks at the solid rock. "Um. Yes."
Quellynne says, "Oh, maybe Quint put it in, so he wouldn't get trapped in the lower levels."
Quellynne says, "Maybe we can dig it now? It doesn't have to be super stable, I guess."
Jack checks the back of the transport and finds some digging gear -- apparently they knew they were coming out to a mine and wanted to be prepared.
Jack says, "Nothing heavy duty back here, though -- just some military-grade hand shovels."
Jack holds one out to Quellynne.
Quellynne exclaims, "OK!"
Quellynne starts digging! Fast!
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Oh, can I dig with Athletics?"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I can't think of a better skill for you to use!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Yes, in this special case, because your super speed is at play"
[peregaming] GM says, "Weak hits at high speed = strong hits at low speed (in terms of results)"
[peregaming] GM says, "So, Athletics +9! (Brenda helps you by using her suit's telekinesis to clear rubble as you dig)"
[peregaming] GM says, "(otherwise it would have been a +10)"
Jack also tries to help dig for a minute or two before realizing that his help is pretty much useless, at which point he just watches.
Quellynne rolls Legendary+2 (+10) + 4dF: +1 -1 -1 0 | Legendary+1 (9)
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Woo!"
[peregaming] GM says, "A tie! Success with minor cost"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Kinda tired?"
[peregaming] GM says, "(Thank you, Jota)"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Unstable tunnel?"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "You're welcome!"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Tired also works."
[peregaming] GM says (to Quellynne), "I like it. 'Tunnel About To Collapse' is dramatic."
[peregaming] Jack says (to Q), "Yours is certainly has more dramatic potential, though."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Let's go with Q's!"
Jack exclaims, "Nice work!"
Brenda says, "Let's go get Ted and the others before this collapses! *cough cough* darn dust"
Quellynne exclaims, "Quint! Get out of there, this tunnel won't last forever!"
Quellynne zips in, looking for everyone.
Jack follows, at a more human pace, with a flashlight he swiped from the transport.
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Do we know where they are? Or do we need to do a search?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "And if the latter, might that be a Notice Avercome?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Er, Overcome?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims (at Jack), "Notice +3! Because you're low on time!"
Jack rolls Great (4) + 4dF: 0 -1 -1 -1 | Average (1)
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "But I have a boost on CHAOS!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Would that buy us some time from being detected?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I'm helping, one assumes."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Or can I try myself?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Well, it's not that which poses a problem, time-wise; it's the tunnel's possible collapse"
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Quellynne), "Helping normally adds a +1 to my roll, making it a 2 total -- is Brenda helping too?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Brenda and Mallory are helping (the latter reluctantly)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Then that brings us up to +4 altogether!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Success!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "You find them!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Most of them somewhat injured, but all alive!"
Jack exclaims, "Hey, they're down this way!"
Jack exclaims, "Professor, this way!"
Jack helps evacuation the ones who are too injured to move by teleporting them down the tunnel.
Quint limps onwards, and Brenda helps him walk. 'Another miracle, Jack?'
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "OK, this is like three or four times in just the last couple of minutes that I have completely screwed up typing what I'm trying to say."
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "This is not acceptable."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "It's just the lack of caffeine."
Jack says, "Miracle? This kind of thing is starting to feel *normal* at this point."
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "Dang, good point. He probably hasn't had any since that conversation when they decided to bring Brenda and Mallory along."
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "I hope that doesn't cause him any... Drawbacks."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "muahhaha"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "it'll come in time... the inevitable compel"
GM exclaims, "So you guys all end up in the stolen vehicle!"
GM exclaims, "While the tunnel collapses right behind you!"
Quellynne zips out carrying the last RONIN, just as the tunnel collapses behind her!
GM asks, "Which, actually, triggers a minor rockfall: parts of the canyon are falling down! Can you guys drive out safely?"
Quellynne drives as fast as she can!
Quellynne rolls Fair (2) + 4dF: +1 -1 +1 -1 | Fair (2)
GM exclaims (at Quellynne), "You succeed, at a minor cost!"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "A mine-ore cost"
[Crows-Nest] Jack asks, "Does hearing that count?"
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "(Kidding.)"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "snrk"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Can I take stress?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Some rock comes through the windshield"
Quellynne starts sweating bullets, and fights with the vehicle for being WAY TOO SLOW to respond, and eventually gets out and pushes some, where she gets pummeled by debris some.
[peregaming] GM says, "hee"
[peregaming] GM says, "superpush"
GM asks, "And now you guys are on the highway! What's the plan now?"
Quellynne drives east.
Quellynne says (to Quint), "Well, I'm out of ideas for where to set up a secret base."
Quellynne asks, "How did they find this one?"
[Crows-Nest] Jack exclaims, "I have an idea!"
[Crows-Nest] GM asks, "Is it a good idea or a bad idea?"
[Crows-Nest] Jack exclaims, "Yes!"
Jack describes, loudly enough for everyone on the bus to hear, a suggestion for another possible place where we could use as a secret base.
[peregaming] Jack says, "(And by 'another possible place', I mean I am 100% making something up.)"
[peregaming] GM says, "Oho."
Jack then slips into the future. How will the CIA find out about *this* new location?
[peregaming] Jack says, "I have no idea if that question is pushing the limits for what Visions should be allowed to do."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Well, you asked a single question, that's acceptable!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "If so, I encourage you to tweak the answer until it's appropriate."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Woo."
[peregaming] GM says, "Now just give me a moment to consult my notes."
[peregaming] (from Jack) GM frantically invents some new notes to consult.
[peregaming] GM says, "hahaha truer than you'd think"
GM rolls 1 2-sided die: 1 | 1
[Crows-Nest] Jack exclaims, "Oh no, our coin flip critically failed!"
GM says (to Jack), "They find it out by being tipped off... by someone who thought RONIN's scheme was crazy... and who, in this timeline, still has no reason to believe in Soulmongers, since he wasn't taken along in this timeline to the other universe..."
[peregaming] GM says, "I think you know who I mean, but I'll spell it out:"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "It better not be Falk!"
[Crows-Nest] GM exclaims (at Jack), "Your own son!"
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "Ha ha ha."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Who is Falk?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Nice cop."
[peregaming] Jack says, "He's the police officer whose son owns the diner we hang out at."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Oh, so grumpy cop?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Falk is good cop, Jackson is grumpy cop."
[peregaming] Jack says, "He looks like the grandfather in the Princess Bride, and we've saved him from a costumed villain a couple of times."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "The good cop/grumpy cop routine is a lesser known variant."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Right, sorry; I meant, "oh, so it was the grumpy cop who tipped off the feds?""
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "guess he was FED UP"
[Crows-Nest] GM pulls off his mask! He's Funny-Man!
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Oh, right, heh. You mean Jackson?"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I am still waiting for the GM to actually spell it out!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims (at Jack), "Jack's son, of course! JACKSON!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oh ha ha."
[peregaming] Quellynne groans appreciatively.
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I told you we shouldn't have let him in here!"
Jack opens his eyes.
Jack whispers to Quellynne and Quint, "Jackson."
Quellynne whispers back, "What? Why?"
Jack explains, quietly, what he saw in his vision.
Quint (in a whisper) says, "Jackson? That makes a lot of sense, sadly."
Jack says, "The question is, what to do about it."
[peregaming] Jack says, "If we were villains, we could just shoot him."
[peregaming] Jack says, "We could also just dump him by the side of the road, but that would just leave him to cause us more trouble."
[peregaming] Jack says, "We could try to use him to feed more bad data to the CIA, but that seems dangerous."
Quellynne asks, "We could take him to meet the soulmonger?"
Jack asks, "The s-- you mean, Smiley?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Right, and of course, we can try to turn him. This is apparently what we do to villains in this game."
[peregaming] (from GM) Mallory says '*plplpl* suckers *whirr*'
[peregaming] Jack says, "Mmhmm."
[peregaming] GM says, "If consulted, Mallory would gladly absorb Jackson. *zzzzooop* *glubl*"
Jack asks, "You think seeing someone with too many teeth in his eyes would convince him to switch sides?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Worth a try."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Did we lose Quellynne?)"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Q?"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Do you Q-py?"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Quellynne seems to be afk?"
[peregaming] Jack googles 'Seattle power outages'.
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Whoops, sorry."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "It was my first thought. It's not like I have Rapport; only Provoke ;-)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "That will help if we want Smiley to each Jackson."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I'm not ruling that plan out, mind you."
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Quellynne), "Do you want to answer IC?"
Quellynne says, "I dunno; you said he didn't believe in the Soulmonger, and he's right here! If we can find him, at least."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I *guess* we could take the whole bus on a field trip."
Jack says, "Let the whole class know what we're up against."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "It'd be educational!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hmm, I'm surprised Q doesn't have an aspect about being from a different universe."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(I was just imagining that there might be a link between her and Smiley, both being from the other universe, that might help her find him.)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Although such an aspect probably wouldn't be very generally useful, I suppose.)"
Quellynne says (to bus), "So, just as we got here, we found the guy who was a member of Smiles who seems to now be fully posessed by my universe's Soulmonger. He said something about the 'Watchmakers', and I think we should all hear from him what he has to say. If I can find him. But I'm fast! So I'll go do that."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "That's in the premise."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "The 'Tesser Analogue' bit."
[peregaming] Jack says, "True."
Jack asks (of Q), "You want us to wait here?"
Quellynne says, "No, you should probably keep moving."
Quint says, "Sound idea."
Jack will take the wheel while Quellynne's away, then.
Quellynne hands over the wheel to Brenda, and zips out across the desert.
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(or Jack ;-)"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(timing!)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I have no idea where we're going aside from just 'away', but I guess that's a direction!"
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "East!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "OK!"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "The next episode will take place in Idaho."
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "That is also a direction!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Not Wisconsin?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(I'm sure they have very good milkshakes there.)"
GM says (to Quellynne), "You have no trouble finding Smiley (or the Lady of Smiles, to give it/him/her its/his/her title?)"
GM says, "And not just because you're super fast."
GM says, "As you near the place in the desert where you left them behind, you see clouds of dust and the sound of some great battle..."
Quellynne blinks.
GM says, "... a battle between a Smiles who is a lot less human looking now (the head being more Soulmongery than before) and some tall silhouette in a dark, wispy cloak."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Ah, our aquiline adversary?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oh, maybe not."
[peregaming] GM asks, "Aquiline...?"
Quellynne calls Jack to let him know where she is.
[peregaming] GM says, "As far as you know, the Funny-Man is dead. Probably dead."
Jack turns the wheel and heads toward Q's directions.
Quellynne zips closer to see what's going on.
[peregaming] Jack says, "I was thinking it was the Eagle guy."
[peregaming] GM says, "Aha. No, it most definitely isn't."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "It's a Watchmaker, one presumes."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Yeah."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Does it look like one of them is winning?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "My guess would be 'the one who wasn't just obliterated and reduced to possessing a mortal last session'."
GM exclaims (at Quellynne), "It looks like the Lady of Smiles is losing to the cloaked Watchmaker!"
Jackson says, "What's this?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Has the transport gotten there already?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Or is he just asking why we changed direction?"
[peregaming] GM says, "the latter"
Quellynne zips in, ready to grab Smiles and get out of there. "Hey, Smiley. Need some help?"
Jack says, "Looks like we've got ourselves an interdimensional melee going on."
Lady of Smiles says, "...respite..would be...something..."
Jack says, "Not sure which side is the bad guy, but I'm pretty sure someone is going to need our help out there."
Quellynne exclaims, "Great!"
Quellynne grabs Smiles and runs away!
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Okay, that's going to prompt opposition from the Watchmaker!"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "With any luck, I'll be able to use Athletics ;-)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "In fact... you need to overcome a +2 Will obstacle to actually use your super speed in the presence of the Watchmaker!"
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "dun dun dun!"
Quellynne rolls Average (1) + 4dF: -1 0 -1 +1 | Mediocre (0)
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "Nope!"
Watchmaker says, "AND WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?"
Quellynne suddenly feels really lethargic!
Quellynne says, "What the.. why..."
Quellynne stumbles across the desert!
Quellynne runs at her normal speed!
Quellynne rolls Great (4) + 4dF: -1 0 0 0 | Good (3)
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Hm, that's a tie!"
[peregaming] GM says, "So you succeed at a cost"
[peregaming] GM says, "(at getting back into the van with Smiley)"
[peregaming] GM says, "(assuming that Jack slows down/stops)"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Will Jack realize that that's needed?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Good question! Notice overcome, +2"
Jack rolls Great (4) + 4dF: +1 0 -1 -1 | Good (3)
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "What if I get Smiley in, but am left behind?"
Jack slams on the brakes!
[peregaming] Jack says, "I think requiring that Overcome from me works as a minor cost."
[peregaming] GM says, "Me too."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "He could have failed!"
Jack exclaims (at Quellynne), "What's wrong? I almost drove right past you!"
Jackson says, "Aaah! What the motherbleeping eff is that thing? Another mutant?"
Quellynne says, "That.. that thing stole my powers! I think it's a Watchmaker."
Quellynne says, "You better get us out of here..."
Quellynne tags Jack with a Empowered boost!
Jack hits the gas!
Jackson (pointing at Smiles) says, "I'm talking about THAT!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hmm. How does the GM feel about cheating and doing things that I shouldn't be allowed to do with my powers? :)"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Depends. What is it?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "In theory, I can teleport with another person. But my powers don't let me teleport with, say, and entire military transport vehicle filled with over a dozen people."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "But I wonder if a sufficiently good Will Overcome might actually allow it?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "To basically get us a really good head start against the Watchmaker, in case it tries to pursue us."
[peregaming] GM says, "Well, you already sent a helicopter into the future once."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Yeah, but *that* power says it works on objects! This one doesn't :)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "I see!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Yes, I am a rules lawyer against myself, sometimes.)"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "You could send the transport into the past?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "So we have more time to get away."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hmm. That sounds good."
[peregaming] GM says, "My head hurts."
[peregaming] Jack says, "This *would* mean that as Quellynne arrived on the scene, she already saw the transport driving off."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Are we OK with that?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Yes, so long as Q acknowledges this now in-game"
[peregaming] GM says, "(She can even suggest this plan!)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Good idea!"
Quellynne asks, "Wait, didn't you already drive away?"
Quellynne says, "I know I saw you drive away."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Also, if a human is a +2 Obstacle, and a car is a +4 obstacle, how much is a military transport? +5? +6?"
Jack asks, "What? You mean, in the past?"
Jack exclaims, "Good idea!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "+5!"
Jack floors it, as the speedometer climbs up past 60, 70, 80... 86... 87...
Jack rolls Good (3) + 4dF: -1 +1 +1 -1 | Good (3)
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "And the boost from Empowered!"
[peregaming] GM cues Back to the Future theme!
[peregaming] Jack hits 88 and everything outside the windows is a blur of lightning and ice and twisted space for a moment -- and then we're back in the desert, driving past Quellynne as she runs by!
Jack hits 88 and everything outside the windows is a blur of lightning and ice and twisted space for a moment -- and then we're back in the desert, driving past Quellynne as she runs by!
Jackson says, "Sweet mother of f***!"
Jack exclaims, "That should get us a head start against whatever that Watchmaker is!"
Jackson says, "That doesn't explain a goddamn thing!"
Jack asks (of Quellynne), "You want to explain it all to him, or should I?"
Quellynne asks (of Jackson), "Haven't you been listening?"
Quellynne says (to Smiles), "You tell him what that was."
Lady of Smile says, "(to Jackson) Perhaps a little trip to the past would help. *takes Jackson's hand, disappears for a split second, they return, Jackson's hair is now white with terror*"
Jackson says, "Whoa."
Jack whispers (to Quellynne), "She can *do* that?"
Quellynne whispers back, "Uh, that's new to me..."
Lady of Smiles (to Jack) says, "I jumped into my own cosmic memory; what there was left of it, anyway."
Lady of Smiles says, "I am, of course, sorely diminished."
Lady of Smiles says, "These tricks won't work on a Watchmaker."
Jack asks (of Jackson), "So do you get it all now?"
[Crows-Nest] (from Jack) Jackson says, "I saw the Time Knife!"
Jackson says, "Forgive me. I did stupid stuff."
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "(That being a reference to a TV show called 'The Good Place' which, if you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend that you A) watch it, but B) don't read *anything* about it first!)"
Jack says, "Yeah."
Quellynne asks (of Lady), "So, um, was that indeed a Watchmaker?"
Quellynne asks, "And what was its problem?"
Lady of Smiles says, "Well, it had been sent to investigate rumors of my demise."
Jack says, "Possibly somethng to do with the fact that we split this universe several hundredfold over the last week."
Jack says, "Or, I guess, that."
Lady of Smiles says, "It thought I was responsible for that timeline-splitting, and was quite vexed."
Jack asks, "So what is their deal, exactly? Do they think they rule the multiverse or something? Everyone has to follow their rules?"
Lady of Smiles says, "Essentially, yes."
Jack asks, "Huh. And what do they think gives them that authority?"
Lady of Smiles says, "Well, they used to be the minions of a greater being, one which created reality itself. Then they rebelled and killed that being, or at least banished It somewhere."
Jack says, "So you're saying that we've basically ticked off Lucifer."
Jackson says, "We are so f****"
Jack asks, "If you're going to pick an enemy, I guess why go small?"
Jack says (to Jackson), "Oh, and don't say that in front of Remba."
Jack says, "She doesn't like that kind of language."
Jackson says, "I guess I'll just be screaming inside, then, shan't I"
Jack says, "Yup. Alright. So we've got two enemies, one vehicle, about fifteen regular people, a few superheroes and/or villains, and no headquarters."
Jack says, "We need a plan. Step one is probably, 'don't get caught by the bad guys'."
Quellynne asks (of Smiles), "Is there a way to fight the Watchmakers? Or a way to hide from them?"
Quint says, "This would be so much simpler if we could rally the CIA to our cause..."
Lady of Smiles says, "Well, one fun trick we enjoy is tricking them into breaking their own rules. That's kind of difficult, though, and only gets rid of them for a bit."
Jack asks, "OK, what are their rules?"
Lady of Smiles says, "People who are perfectly ordinary are almost invisible to them, so"
Jack says (to Jackson), "That means you."
Lady of Smiles says, "One rule is time. Time should flow in one direction, cause precede effect, no paradoxes. If you can make them over-extend their abilities, that can do it."
Lady of Smiles says, "Another rule is locality: no action at a distance."
Jack says, "Paradoxes, huh..."
Jack says (to Quellynne), "Here's a thought:"
Jack asks, "Do you think we could make one angry?"
Jack asks, "Like, angry enough to break something?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Oho, I like the sound of this"
Quellynne says, "I'm pretty good at getting people angry."
Quellynne asks, "But break what--break a law?"
Jack says, "Break causality."
Jack says, "What if we took something -- anything, really -- from the future..."
Jack asks, "...and then somehow got one of the Watchmakers to destroy the original version of it here in the present?"
Jack says, "We'd have the future version here, intact. But the past version already destroyed. Paradox."
Lady of Smiles says, "Are you sure you're not a relation of mine?"
Jack is about to answer, then stops.
Jack asks, "I... I hope not?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(How sure *am* I...)"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Ha."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Sure. Like, I dunno, a shield?"
Quellynne asks, "Sure. Like, I dunno, a shield?"
Jack asks, "Sure. Do we have a shield?"
[peregaming] GM asks, "What kind of shield?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Maybe something round, with circular strips on it? And a star in the middle?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Ha"
[peregaming] GM says, "Wouldn't that be marvel-ous"
Jack says, "If not, we could maybe rip some of the armor plating off this transport to make one."
Quint says, "Well, that sounds like a plan."
Quint says, "I'm still a little shaky on the 'now we're friends with the Soulmonger' part myself."
Jack looks to Quellynne for that one.
Quint says, "But then again, I've seen crazier things happen. I trust that our very own Reset and the Tesseract will pull this off."
Quellynne says, "Well, she's kind of trapped in this human body, and said universes like ours were tasty, so I said why not just try living and maybe that'll be like tasting our universe from the inside, only better."
Quellynne exclaims, "So it's an experiment!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "He's seen crazier things happen than a transdimensional universe-consuming monster be reduced to a mortal shell and then reform to assist with fighting *different* transdimensional universe-controlling monsters?"
[peregaming] GM says, "He's seen you punch a transdimensional baby universe-eating monster."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Yeah, true."
[peregaming] GM says, "And he's seen you redeem seemingly iredeemable people (like himself!)"
Jack says, "Alright, let's do this."
[peregaming] Jack says, "So I suppose step one: we make the shield."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Do we need want to roleplace and/or roll Crafts for that?"
[peregaming] GM says, "You have 15 engineers (well, 10 if you discount those who are wounded). They can do it for you."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Roleplace? Roleplay.)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "OK!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Thanks, Marie!)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Roleplay Marie the Swiss engineer and her friends as they do this!"
[peregaming] GM says, "(I'll do this part)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Aw."
[peregaming] GM asks, "Do YOU want to...?"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I had already started typing!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Finish typing then :-)"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "It's a GM-off! :D"
(From Jack) Marie cuts out a large, rectangular section of the armor plating. To one side, she welds on two curved iron bars to act as handles. The other side, she paints red. Then she adds a large white plus sign in the middle.
[peregaming] GM says, "YAY"
[peregaming] Jack says, "I thought you'd be pleased :)"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Ha"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Meanwhile, did we get to rest and recover our mild consequences while they were working on that?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Yes!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Woo!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Because otherwise the 5 wounded would have bled out to death."
Marie says, "Voila!"
Jack exclaims, "Fantastic!"
Jack says, "Now my power is only short-range -- I can't pull things from very far into the future."
Jack says, "So we should get close to the Watchmaker before we duplicate it."
Lady of Smiles says, "I'll help you there: I can smell those cursed legislators."
Quint says, "I guess it's time to hit the road... Jack."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Are we back to Quellynne driving?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Suit yourselves: you have all the choice in the world."
Quellynne says (to Jack), "Maybe Brenda should drive if I'm going to be the one taunting."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Or is Q wrestling with RL stuff?)"
Jack says, "Good thought."
Brenda says, "Why me? I only started walking again recently!"
[peregaming] Jack says (to GM), "Let me know when you think we've entered The Scene Where We Taunt The Watchmaker."
Quint says, "I'll take the wheel."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "The scene is now!"
GM says, "CUT TO: Desert."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "OK! The shield is probably smaller than a human -- +1 Obstacle?"
GM says, "The Watchmaker is a looming silhouette in the desert sun."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Or is it +2 since armor plating is heavy?)"
[peregaming] GM says, "yep"
Jack rolls Good (3) + 4dF: +1 -1 0 0 | Good (3)
[peregaming] GM says, "you suceed"
Jack puts one hand on the shield. A moment later, a second copy of it appears in his other hand!
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Can I talk to Smiles to find out the sort of things the Watchmakers find *really* annoying?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(like a Create Advantage with Provoke?)"
[peregaming] GM says, "indeed"
Quellynne rolls Good (3) + 4dF: +1 +1 -1 +1 | Superb (5)
[peregaming] GM asks, "Wait, is that roll for provoking the Watchmaker?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Because you also asked if you could get info from Smiles"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "No, that was a roll for creating advantage using my knowledge of provoking."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "ah!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "then you successfuly create the advantage 'Backwards speak you when it hate they'!"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Ha ha ha"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Also: is the Will roll a once per encounter thing, or a once per action thing?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(also, I tag Jack with another Boost.)"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Or is the Will roll a defense against an action the Watchmaker took?"
[peregaming] GM says (to Quellynne), "If you're within the same zone as the Watchmaker, you have to make the Will roll: it's a Power nullification zone, also known as their 'Killjoy aura'"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oho."
[peregaming] Quellynne asks (of GM), "Just once?"
[peregaming] GM says, "every time you need to use a power in that zone"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Got it."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "I'm guessing it's https://fate-srd.com/venture-city/power-nullification ?"
[peregaming] GM says, "yup"
[peregaming] GM says, "thematically appropriate for the Watchmakers"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Quite so."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Also thematically appropriate for our powers in particular."
Jack says (to Quellynne), "So *this* shield is the one from future. It's the one we need to keep safe. *That* one is the one from the past. It's the one they need to destroy."
Jack says, "If you want to take the lead with the past shield, I can follow behind at a distance with the future one."
Quellynne exclaims, "Will do!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Also, it's convenient that your Provoke Violence stunt isn't part of any power, in case we need it!"
[peregaming] GM asks, "I feel like this might be a good time to switch to init?"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "OK!"
GM clears the initiative.
GM registers Watchmaker at init 2.
[peregaming] Jack asks, "We're rolling, or no?"
[peregaming] GM says, "As you wish."

[peregaming] GM says, "We all do that, it's ok"

Jack, since he's hanging back while Q takes point, just observes the situation, looking out for any possible dangers.
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Create Advantage with Notice?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Sure, +2 opposition"
Jack rolls Great (4) + 4dF: 0 -1 -1 -1 | Average (1)
[peregaming] Jack says, "Oh for Pete's sake."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Rather than get a bad Aspect against us, I'm going to tag Curious But Skeptical."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "+2 gets me a success. Do you want to pick a particular thing I've noticed, or should I just create the Aspect 'Alert'?"
Jack spends a fate point, leaving him with 1.
[peregaming] GM says, "Let's call the aspect 'Alert', but I'll tell you a bit of info to go with it"
GM says (to Jack), "You are on high Alert, and think you might be hearing a strange-sounding plane coming this way. Also, the Watchmaker's arms look like clock hands, only very sharp and deadly-looking."
[peregaming] GM asks, "Shall we say that PC advance their own init?"
Jack says (to Q), "We may have company from the air. And watch out for his hands."
Jack advances the initiative: Jack(23) WATCHMAKER(2) Quellynne(0)
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Sounds good to me!"
Quellynne braces herself.
Watchmaker says, "HER MINIONS. YOU HAVE BROKEN THE RULES. REPENT."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "How many zones are we away from the Watchmaker?"
GM rolls Fantastic (6) + 4dF: +1 +1 -1 -1 | Fantastic (6)
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Jack was planning to stay a couple zones behind Quellynne.)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Ooh, I wonder if we want a Map!)"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Is that an attack? Do I defend with athletics?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Is that a Rapport attack to make us feel like repenting? ;-)"
[peregaming] GM says, "Athletics! But you only get superspeed bonus if you overcome +2 Will first."
[peregaming] GM says, "So better roll that first."
Quellynne feels the onset of sluggishness once again!
Quellynne rolls Average (1) + 4dF: +1 -1 -1 -1 | Poor (-1)
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Or does it just make the opposition for the Athletics roll +2 higher?"
Quellynne succumbs to the slow.
Quellynne rolls Great (4) + 4dF: 0 +1 0 0 | Superb (5)
[peregaming] Jack says, "Er, sorry, I shouldn't kibbitz."
[peregaming] GM says, "https://www.webwhiteboard.com/board/vgdtvzy2"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Hmm, given that we're trying to get it to attack the shield, can I take some stress in return for the shield getting beaten up?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Sure."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Ooh, so this is interesting -- do you even *want* to avoid being attacked?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "OK, taking 3 points stress, and 2 points to the shield."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Hmm, does the shield have consequences and all that?"
[peregaming] GM says, "I guess it has a 1 stress box and a 2 stress box."
[peregaming] GM says, "Because it's made by Marie :-)"
Quellynne gasps. "fine me defend will shield this and, again wind my get me let just!"
Quellynne provokes the Watchmaker!
Quellynne rolls Good (3) + 4dF: -1 +1 -1 0 | Fair (2)

GM registers Eagle at init 24.
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "That's pretty fast!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I guess I'm not the only one with Precognition!"
[peregaming] GM says, "nah, it's just for this turn, then it'll be sandwiched in between you and Watchmaker"
GM says, "The flying Eagle-suit guy lands! He picks up the vehicle with his super strength. His head detaches and zooms towards Jack: 'Suspect detected!'"
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "(Something tells me Eagle has the Technology power theme...)"
Jack exclaims (at Eagle), "Hey! Leave that alone!"
Eagle's head says, "They are also suspects. Surrender now or be terminated."
Jack points at the Watchmaker. "What about that guy? Is he a suspect?"
Eagle's head says, "He is... Analyzing databases. No match found."
Eagle's head says, "Conclusion: there is no such person. Optical illusion, distraction intended to mislead. Suspect must be apprehended."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(I'm waiting until my turn to respond.)"
GM rolls Good (3) + 4dF: 0 +1 +1 -1 | Great (4)
[peregaming] Jack asks, "What's that roll for?"
GM exclaims (at Jack), "Lasers come out of the eagle guy's head's eyes!"

[peregaming] GM says, "Yes."
Jack dodges right before he shoots!
Jack rolls Great (4) + 4dF: +1 -1 +1 -1 | Great (4)

[peregaming] GM exclaims, "I invoke your Drawback! You haven't had coffee!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Oh no!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "I accept the compel! What's the effect of it?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "And I also invoke your moderate consequence! Your atoms are unstable!"
GM spends two fate points.
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "That they are! And that one is a free inv-- I mean, yes, that is good that you are spending two points!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "AHa!"
GM unspends one fate point.
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Jack), "What did I tell you about kibbitzing?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Hee"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "You take 4 stress from lasers hitting you in the face! Narrate your darkest hour!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Noo! I absorb two stress with a box and the other two are a consequence."
[peregaming] GM asks, "Teary-Eyed?"
Jack sees the lasers coming and rewinds into the past to dodge -- but only *after* they've already struck him! To all appearances, he just took a laser blast to the face despite not even being visibly hit by them, and he is now Dazzled with lights flashing and weaving in his vision.

Jack points at Jack. "If *he's* a suspect, then what does that make *me*?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "I'm trying to out-logic him, in the hope that he'll either have a programming error, or at least decide to leave the engineers alone to deal with both of me."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Does Logic fall under Will?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "It does!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Excellent! Would that be a Create Advantage or an Overcome?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Opposed Will test!"

Watchmaker says, "I SHALL STRIP YOU OF YOUR UNDESERVED POWER"
Jack exclaims (at Van), "Get out of here! Go someplace safe, while we deal with them!"
Quint says, "I'm on it, Jack! We're all counting on you!"
Quint drives away.
[peregaming] Quellynne asks (of GM), "Does it look like it's doing a physical attack, or something else?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Physical attack: it stabs at you with long arms like clock hands."
[peregaming] GM says, "No action at a distance allowed, see"
[peregaming] Quellynne asks, "Can I tag Provoke so the attack goes directly against the shield?"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Heh."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(AFK a moment.)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims (at Q), "yep, you can tag that!"
[peregaming] GM says, "all part of your excellent plan"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Jack & Quellynne's Excellent Plan"
[peregaming] Quellynne does so!
Quellynne smiles grimly and holds up the shield against the Watchmaker's onslaught!
GM exclaims (at Quellynne), "It stabs at the shield and chips it away to bits!"
Watchmaker says, "WHAT A USELESS OBJECT"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Back.)"
Quellynne exclaims, "Oh, no! You destroyed my shield! But wait, we already have a copy of it from the future? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???!!"
Jack brandishes the Future Shield!
Watchmaker says, "NO! IT CANNOT BE! SACRILEGE!"
Jack exclaims, "You're responsible for creating this Paradox!"
Quellynne asks, "Why would you do such a thing?"
Watchmaker says, "I HAVE BROKEN THE RULES. I MUST PAY."
Jack asks, "What punishment is there for someone who has broken the rules?"
Watchmaker says, "DEATH."
Jack says, "Ooh. Tough luck for you, then."
Watchmaker says, "WAIT...DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU TO -- *falls to dust in a flash of white light*"
Jack is about to hurry over to high-five Quellynne when he has an idea.
[peregaming] Jack says, "If the Eagle needs his head and body connected to reboot..."
Jack grabs the Eagle's head and teleports over to Quellynne with it!
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Cheeky :-)"
[Crows-Nest] Jack says, "We can let Remba try to make friends with it later."
Jack exclaims (at Quellynne), "Nice one!"
Quellynne exclaims (at Jack), "Good idea--let's get out of here!"
Jack exclaims, "OK!"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "So, before the final scene of this session, we need to answer one question;"
[peregaming] Jack asks (of GM), "Wanna compel idea?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Sure why not"
[peregaming] Jack asks (of GM), "Is Jack 'Curious But Skeptical' enough to pocket a handful of Watchmaker dust before leaving?"
Quellynne says (to Marie), "We need a faraday cage or something so that this head can't communicate with its body any more. Or, uh, anything else."
Marie says, "Aucun souci. Right away."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(OOC, I know that doing so is almost certainly a terrible idea. IC, Jack is a scientist and really wants to study it.)"
Quint says, "Be careful with that head. It's Winslowe's."
[peregaming] GM says, "Do you need that fate point, or is it just for RP? because I'm happy with compels that just provide plot hooks for later :-D"
[peregaming] Jack says, "The fate point would be nice -- it'll carry over to the next session if I don't spend it -- but just knowing that it's helping rather than hindering the campaign is reason enough to do it."
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Have the fate point!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Woo!"
Quint (taking Eagle's head in his hand for a moment before passing it back) says, "Ah, Winslowe. They couldn't just let you die, they had to bring you back using my ill-fated technology."
Jack says (to Quint), "You mean... this is the one we saw... but he was..."
Quellynne asks, "You... you knew this guy? head? When he was more than a head? Or something?"
Jack asks, "*Your* technology? Is the Eagle suit a variation of the Mindbender?"
Quint says, "He was once a good colleague of mine, and one of the best secret agents in the world. And yes, the Eagle suit was a very primitive version, along with a life support system."
Quint says, "I guess they took the opportunity to test it on a subject whose mind was strong enough to take the strain."
[peregaming] Jack wonders if Mallory has any response to all of this.
[peregaming] GM says, "It wasn't her who killed him, it was her friend"
[peregaming] GM says, "And it wasn't personal"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Yeah, but they were working together, weren't they?"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Or were they operating independently at that point?"
[peregaming] GM says, "the former"
Mallory says, "*plplpl* whatever *whirr*"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Hee."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Yeah, sounds about right."
Jack asks, "What do we do with the body?"
Jack asks, "Does it still contain... *his* body?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Given what happened to Mallory, it's actually surprising she hasn't devolved into a Dalek"
Quint says, "Unlikely. They would have retained only the head for its higher-level thought processes; properly harnessed, the brain's performances exceed that of any computer."
Quint says, "Neuroscience was never my strong suit, though."
[peregaming] Jack says, "Well now that you say that, I'm imagining Winslowe as https://tinyurl.com/y4l9ksul"
Jack asks, "Do you think we can deprogram him? Turn him back into Winslow?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Is it bad that I know what that is without ever watching any Doctor Who (other than the Atkinson Comic Relief thing)"
[peregaming] Jack says, "It would be bad if you knew that *without* having to even follow the URL."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "I've been imagining https://www.mobygames.com/game/xbox-one/headlander/cover-art/gameCoverId,388915/"
Quint says, "It'd take the world's best neuroscientist. But not impossible. I mean, look at what we achieved today."
[peregaming] Jack says (to Quellynne), "Yay."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(BTW, is this the final scene, or do you have another one in mind after this?)"
[peregaming] GM says (to Q), "That is exactly the idea I had in mind: just add a beak and you've got it"
[peregaming] Jack says, "You say 'beak'; I say 'handle'."
[peregaming] GM says, "The final scene should be at RONIN's new residence."
Jack says, "Alright. There's no way I can fit all these people into my apartment."
Jack asks (of Quellynne), "Where are we going to go now?"
Quellynne says, "You ask that like this is my universe."
Quellynne asks, "I mean, I guess we could go to my universe? Somehow?"
Quellynne says, "But it's probably better to stay."
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I ask that like you're the only one here who's ever been a secret agent before!"
Quint says, "We need to find a definitive solution for that CIA problem."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "You can say that in person ;-)"
Quint says, "Some kind of truce..."
Jack says, "You're the only one here who's ever been a rogue secret agent before. You've got more experience with this kind of thing than anyone else here."
Quellynne asks, "Maybe Winslow's head here recorded the Watchmaker thing?"
Quint says, "Highly likely."
Quellynne says (to Jack), "I... I guess. I was never the ideas woman, though; that was Brenda's department."
[peregaming] Jack says, "As I recall, the CIA is against us because we prevented them from interfering with a US election."
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Is that correct?"
[peregaming] GM says, "Correct."
[peregaming] GM says, "no wait"
[peregaming] GM says, "they also think Quint murdered Mallory and her friend"
[peregaming] GM says, "that's the CURRENT reason"
[peregaming] GM says, "See episode 5"
Jack says (to Quint), "The CIA masterminded an attempt to interfere with the presidential election. That's serious, and it means there's some pretty deep corruption."
Jack says, "If we can ferret it out and bring it to light -- show someone the truth about what happened, and about what happened to Mallory and her partner, and bring whoever was behind it to justice..."
Jack says, "Then maybe there's a chance."
Jack asks, "Do you think that's possible?"
Quint says, "Maybe. But it'll take time. We need leverage... didn't the Neighborhood officially rescue Crane?"
Jack says, "Yes."
Quint says, "So that's one thing in our favor. Another thing... we still have Mallory. If we make her presentable, aka 'human looking', she can deliver a message of truce to the CIA."
Quint says, "That would buy us time."
[peregaming] Jack says, "I am opposed to making a truce until we've uncovered who was behind the plot and gotten them arrested."
[peregaming] GM says, "But then everyone is going to be sleeping in your crummy apartment"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(But I am all in favor of doing a session about doing just that, so we can make a truce with a cleaned-up CIA.)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims (at GM), "Not if we find a place to hide in the meantime!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "If it weren't for Jackson, we would have been just fine in the mine!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Surely that can't be the *only* possible hideout in the country."
[peregaming] GM says (to Jack), "good point."
[peregaming] GM says, "I'll grant you this one"
Jack says (to Brenda), "What do you think? If we can find another place to hide out, that would be another way of buying us some time."
Jack says, "Quellynne says the other you was good at logistics like that..."
Brenda says, "Well, okay... Let me think."
[peregaming] (from Jack) GM frantically creates some more notes to consult
Brenda says, "Are you okay with fish?"
Jack says, "Fine with me."
Brenda says, "There's an abandoned oil rig down in the bay. My father was a fisherman, he would take me and my sister picnicking there. The corrupted town officials never had that thing taken down because they hoped they could persuade another oil company to take it on."
Jack asks (of QUellynne), "What do you think?"
Quellynne exclaims, "Sounds good to me!"
Jack says, "Alright. Let's give it a good remodelling."
GM says, "MONTAGE: Remodelling oil rig."
Marie says, "The sea air! So bracing."
Technician says, "Hey, we're picking up a signal on the interdimensional radar!"
Technician says, "It appears to be... a video call?"
Jack sets down his Starbucks cup. "Yeah? Put it through the big screen."
Technician says, "Putting it through, Mr Day."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Ooh. *Mr* Day.)"
[peregaming] GM says, "Someday you're be DOCTOR DAY"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Yay!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "As soon as I find time to actually finish my thesis in between saving the world."
GM says (to Jack), "The picture is grainy, black and white, littered with artifacts. Remba waves."
Jack exclaims, "Hey, Remba! Long time no see!"
GM says (to Jack), "'Hey Jack! Hey guys! How's it going? Have you figured out that Soulmonger thing?'"
Quellynne says (to Remba), "Yeah, she's over here."
Jack says, "Yup, more or less -- we saved Quellynne's universe, destroyed most of the Soulmonger. Found some new interdimensional bad guys to fight -- we could probably use your help with that if you can find the time."
Jack asks, "What have *you* been up to? Are you coming home?"
GM says (to Quellynne), "'Whaaat? That's so cool. Rumba and I have run into some problems in this universe. They tried to clean up pollution in an exceedingly dumb way and we need to--' *crashing trees in background, jets screaming past* 'we're figuring out how to stop it! No worries! *looks off camera* Also, how's your pink eye? Better? Okay!'"
GM says (to Jack), "In the background, you see a giant Roomba crash into Mount Rushmore."
GM says, "*dun dun DUN*"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Fact: Tale emailed me this!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Ha ha ha."
[peregaming] GM says, "It was too good NOT to use"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "Ha ha ha"
[peregaming] Jack asks (of Taleslinger), "If you're reading this transcript: so now you're just phoning it in, huh?"
[peregaming] GM says, "And that concludes this session :-D"
[peregaming] Jack says (to GM), "Yay."
[peregaming] Quellynne exclaims, "Yay! Thanks!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "You're welcome!"
[peregaming] Jack asks, "Hey, using the rules we're using, are both my consequences clear now?"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "Yes!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Woo!"
[peregaming] (from Jack) GM says, "Also, that Watchmaker you defeated was just a baby Watchmaker."
[peregaming] GM says, "hahaha"
[peregaming] GM says, "stop punching babies lol"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "But they're like tiny pin~atas filled with XP!"
[peregaming] GM says, "so tasteless"
[peregaming] GM says, "and chewy"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(Oh, speaking of XP...?)"
[peregaming] GM says, "What's the milestone that's neither big nor small? Have one of those."
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "Significant. Yay, thanks!"
[peregaming] GM asks, "Also, did one of you not want to play next week because of superhero fatigue?"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Yeah, lps said that."
[peregaming] GM says, "Because that is perfectly acceptable"
[peregaming] GM says, "I myself need a break to regenr"
GM goes east.
[peregaming] GM says, "w"
[peregaming] Jack says, "(And I admit I am kinda hoping to have Remba back the next time we play.)"
[peregaming] GM says, "me too"
[peregaming] Quellynne nods.
[peregaming] Jack says, "Also, given that there are now ~20 people who know who I am, I might need to change my 'Secret Identity: Tesseract' aspect."
[peregaming] GM says, "sadly, there doesn't seem to be much chance of that in the near future. still, this was already a lot of story"
[peregaming] GM says (to Jota), "Yes, that's a consequence of going from city-scale superheroics to dealing with universal threats"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I should never have taken my maks off in front of Quint!"
[peregaming] Jack says, "Mask, even."
[peregaming] Jack says, "MAKS, I am sure, is some complicated acronym for whatever Remba's building next."
[peregaming] Jack exclaims (at GM), "Thanks for the game!"
[peregaming] GM says, "I hope to scale it down a little when we return to this campaign. Although these 'bargaining with gods' sessions have been fun :-)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims (at Jack), "you're welcome!"
[peregaming] GM says, "I am impressed that this has worked so well."
[peregaming] Jack wonders if 'Transdimensional Superhero' would be appropriate...
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "yeah, it's been good."
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(OK, have to go make a cake ;-)"
[peregaming] Quellynne says, "(for real!)"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "cake is the best!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims, "cake for the cake god!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims (at Quellynne), "Good luck on your Crafts check!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Also: nine sessions! Officially the longest running Peregame."
[peregaming] Jack says, "(I assume this is a Create Advantage, to produce the Aspect CAKE with a free invoke.)"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims (at GM), "That's almost as many as Crownsford! I can't let you catch up!"
[peregaming] GM exclaims (at Jack), "Aha! You are playing into my twisted plans! I'll trick you into GMing once more, yet!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims (at GM), "I want to! You just need to get everyone together enough for us to finish Bastafore!"
[peregaming] Jack exclaims, "I have evil plans that I've been waiting for a year to spring on Wanda!"
[peregaming] GM says, "Maybe we can wrap up Horntown Blues in a few sessions of epic heroics, and then return to Crownsford before Christmas... or, better still, after NEw year"
[peregaming] GM says (to Jack), "Wanda is waiting to spring on YOU"
[peregaming] Jack says, "And now I need to go too, to get dinner."
[peregaming] GM says, "I must go... TO BED"
[peregaming] GM says, "Rest... my weary HEAD"
[peregaming] GM's head detaches and flies away, shooting lasers at Jack
[peregaming] GM says, "More seriously: have a nice dinner"
[peregaming] GM says, "And remember to stop logging, and take care of the transcript, and so forth"
[peregaming] GM says, "l"
GM has arrived.
[peregaming] GM says, "Seriously, Bert, you can stop logging now."
GM goes home.
GM has disconnected.
Roger disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
