GM says, "It's been about a week or two since your last exciting adventure, with the stolen animals, hijacked airplane, missed baseball game and Dr. Nichols' laboratory. In the meantime, the mayor's new LEAD Initiative has been rolled out, and LEAD police bots are starting to become a regular sight on Crownsford street corners."
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "I assume we sent the animals back to the zoo?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda exclaims, "And Jacob has a notebook with Q3 written on it!"
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "And that they're enjoying increased ticket sales to see the flying elephant?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "yay"
Jacob probably gave the notebook to Wanda at some point during that time.
GM says, "There have also been a number of news reports about a new threat that's been terrorizing the city, including some blurry cellphone footage that someone took outside their office window of a monster that the media is calling..."
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Dun dun dun"
GM says, "...the 'Scarlet Spider'."
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Oh no"
Cuddlepaws promptly sleeps on the notebooks.
GM says, "Authorities are on the lookout for this creature, and this has led to several awkward silences during Webb family dinners."
Wanda says, "I've been trying to avoid 'spiderizing'... up to now."
GM exclaims, "But speaking of family meals, today -- right now, in fact -- the big Morris family barbecue is in full swing!"
Eben keeps wondering what he could build to fix Wanda's image problem.
GM says, "Much of the extended clan, as well as plenty of friends of the family, are all gathered in Eben's back yard for the shin dig."
Eben keeps asking people if their shins are holding up.
Cuddlepaws lies on a chair and growls at every kid that tries to pet her.
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Since A) you've probably got some stuff to catch up on (like, as Eben points out, what you did with the animals, and other cleanup from last week) and B) there are no doubt other plot threads and leads (like the notebook Wanda and Jacob mentioned), rather than throw any new plot hooks at you right now, I'm going to let you guys take the lead for a while and catch up on stuff."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I assume Wendy the ballet-dancing 'cousin' is there. ;P"
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Hee"
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws has spent the week hunting down the tiger in the woods and endured a lot of golf puns from Eben.
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Ha ha."
Eben hands out burgers (and veggie burgers) to all and sundry.
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Yay"
Cuddlepaws jumps from her seat and rubs against Eben's leg.
Jacob eats a burger, tossing pieces of his bun to birds.
Eben asks (of little_angela), "Hey, kid! Have you been to see the flying elephant yet?"
GM says, "'I wanna see the flying elfon! Mommy, when can I see the flying elfon, Mommy?'"
GM says, "'Soon, Angela.' Aunt Daisy, Angela's mom, looks a bit frazzled. Clearly this isn't the first time the topic has come up in their household."
Eben exclaims, "If your momma says it's OK, I could take you next week!"
GM says, "'Maybe your *grandpa* can find the time to take you to the zoo?'"
GM says, "'Oh, thank heavens!'"
Wanda says (to Jacob), "Did you have any lucky deciphering that notebook? I had a look at it but paper and I tend to... you know..."
Eben high-fives Daisy. "Timing!"
GM says, "Angela jumps up and down and then runs off in excitement. 'I'm gonna see the flying elfon!'"
[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "Can I roll investigate to see if I figured anything out?"
[CCrusaders] GM asks, "How about we do a flashback scene?"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Ok"

Eben says (to Jacob), "That journal's pretty wet and burned--I bet I could make something to dry it out without making the pages stick; hang on."

GM says (to Jacob), "The notebook is pretty badly damaged -- a lot of pages are ripped, smudged or burnt from the explosion, and much of what's left is fairly cryptic jargon and tables of numbers. But it's obvious that 'Q3' refers to a spider that Nichols' was experimenting with back around the time that you and Eben first busted him."

Wanda eats raw burger meat discretely, hiding it inside a bun. It'll cook in her stomach.
(From Eben) Uncle Jerry says (to Eben) "So, I hear you're thinking about buying that old quarry?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "oho"
Eben pets Cuddlepaws and answers, "Yeah, though I'm having a hard time finding out who actually owns it! But I figure I build enough weird things in the basement that it might be good to be a little further away from people if things go wrong."
(From Eben) Frances, behind Eben, nods her head vigorously.
Cuddlepaws sighs and rubs against Frances leg. "Meow, meow etc.?"
(From Eben) Frances rolls her eyes at Eben, and pets Cuddlepaws.
Cuddlepaws sighs again and runs over to Wanda, and steals a bit of raw meat from her burger.
Wanda says, "There you go, Kitty"
GM says, "Jerry muses, 'Well, you know what they say. If you don't know who owns something around Crownsford, it's probably the Payne family.'"
Eben says, "Ha! True enough."
[CCrusaders] GM asks, "By the way, do you want a reminder of a few of the old leads and threads and stuff that you've got lying around?"

Wanda grabs a second helping of undercooked meat, hides it inside a bun, and wanders through the barbecue, looking for some random cousin she can maybe talk to. Since she's going to have to 'stay human' for a while till things die down, she might as well make an effort, for family's sake.

[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "Can I try to defend the spider? Maybe using Deceive to claim I saw it?"
Eben exclaims, "Well, I heard about the climbing, but I didn't hear about any actual attacks. I guess it was just patrolling, or something. And yeah, those monkeys! They were being controlled by some remote device to rob the bank until the Scarlet Spider and friends came in and stopped them! Saved the monkeys from being controlled, and stopped the robbery!"

Wanda sips lemonade, feeling better about herself. Then it occurs to her that even if the Scarlet Spider is rehabilated, her parents might not allow her to spiderize.
Eben exclaims (at Frances), "Another great barbeque, my dear!"
Cuddlepaws naps on Frances' lap.

Eben instinctively catches the knocked-off fuses, and absently replaces them in a bin.

Eben has dismantled one of the robots almost entirely, and has exposed the circuitry in head and torso.
Wanda asks, "So these are the same kind of robots as the LEAD ones, Grandpa?"
Eben exclaims, "That's what I'd like to find out!"
Cuddlepaws asks (of eben), "Can't you see if they are the same breed?"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "OK -- then let's roll Crafts to Overcome, +2."
Eben says, "I was hoping Jacob could help. Let me just make a couple final adjustments here, so he'll have an easier time looking in at them."

Wanda says, "We've just discovered that those robots? The ones in the hijacked plane? They were prototypes for the LEAD ones."
Wanda says, "We're worried about what this might imply."
GM says, "'Hmm. That seems... unlikely. Are you absolutely *sure* about that?'"
[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "Is he on speaker phone?"
Wanda says, "Captain Portal's positive."
Eben motions for Wanda to put it on speaker. "Yeah--I think you're being used. That plane was designed to take us away from the baseball field, where the Half Baker could attack, and the mayor could reveal the LEAD robots!"

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "It should have been Portal Man."

Eben feeds the latest recording into an odd device with a bunch of oscilloscopes and dampeners on it on the wall, with several auto-or-manual-adjusting dials.

Eben tweaks a few dials and tries again.

Wanda sniffs. 'What's that burning smell?'

Cuddlepaws levitates the water cooler bottle of the cooler and bumps Wanda on the head with it twice before realising she has it the wrong way up.
Wanda exclaims, "OW!"
Wanda says, "Oh, my hair."
Wanda extinguishes it with a snap of her fingers.

[CCrusaders] GM asks, "So it sounds like you're planning a trip out to the woods tonight?"

Wanda says, "Let's do it tonight."
Jacob nods.
Eben exclaims, "Sure thing!"
Wanda says, "I'll make the fire."
Cuddlepaws levitates marshmallowd over the fire.
GM exclaims, "So you look up the location of the meteorite strike those many years ago, put together your gear, and head out into the woods!"
Wanda exclaims, "See you tomorrow, Mom and Dad!"
Wanda is now in the woods. Oooo.
GM says, "And you're not the only ones out camping today. While hiking out to the site, also pass by couple of young women that Wanda recognizes from school who are out for a night in the forest as well."
Eben makes sure to include plenty of extra parts for emergency device creation. And he's been fiddling with a device to make people think Wanda's spider form is cute, too, which he might have some time to mess with.
Wanda asks (of Anna), "Oh, hi! We're camping. Are you camping too?"
GM says, "'Yeah! It's such great weather for it! I'm glad that rain we had last week is finally over.'"
GM says, "'Hey, is that your grandpa and... uh, uncle?'"
GM says, "Meanwhile, the other one tries to scritch Cuddlepaws under her chin."
Eben waves cheerily.
Jacob waves, thinking internally that he's not THAT old. Maybe an older cousin. Hmpf.

Wanda says, "Yeah, we've heard cool stories about it."
Cuddlepaws decides the best way to do that is from atop Wanda's backpack.
Eben takes along the high-powered flashlight with five brightness settings.
Wanda whispers, 'Kitty, tell me if I'm catching fire and I'll stop it, okay?'
GM says, "OK! Given the info that you found online, it's not too hard to locate the crater -- it's not a huge one, but it's still pretty recognizable. It's a depression about ten feet across, surrounded by younger trees than in the rest of the forest."
Jacob follows along.
Wanda says, "It's smaller than I imagined."
Wanda says, "Guess it wasn't a meteorite filled with fire spiders, after all."
GM says, "It was probably deeper when it was fresh, but at this point, it's partially filled in with mud and dirt."
Wanda says, "So this is where it all began."
GM says (to Wanda), "Indeed -- it does seem smaller than one might expect..."
Cuddlepaws asks, "Maybe someone filled it in?"
Wanda feels nervous. And a little bit scared.
Jacob asks, "Eben, I don't suppose you brought as shovel?"
Eben says, "It was many years ago."

Wanda stands in the center of the crater, and looks up at the sky thoughtfully.

GM says (to Wanda), "The sun has just setting, and a few of the brighter stars are just starting to come out."
Eben says, "I want to try beaming polydyne radiation into the hole. Maybe something's buried here that'll respond."

Wanda exclaims, "Oh!"
Wanda tosses the polydyne cuff to Eben. 'There.'

GM says (to Cuddlepaws), "It's coming from the other campsite -- with Anna and the other woman! They're standing there in the middle of it, stock still, staring at something in the trees..."
GM exclaims, "...it's a tiger!"
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "Would it be interesting for me to drop the device and run off towards the campsite, leaving Wanda with a discarded cuff and impending earthquake?"
Cuddlepaws says, "Uh oh"
[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "Did we hear that?"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "If you want to have heard it, yes."
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Ok!"
Cuddlepaws exclaims (at women), "Get out of here! That's not a harmless, ordinary tiger!"
Jacob goes running towards the sound.
GM says, "Meanwhile, the shaking increases, and the mud in the middle of the crater starts to churn..."
Eben is also running off, but left the device in the dirt.
Wanda says, "Grandpa! You left this -- *tries to pick up device*"
GM exclaims, "Anna screams again, and the tiger swats at her with its claw, knocking her down! She's bleeding!"
Wanda hears the screaming. 'Oh, no.'
GM exclaims (at Wanda), "What's that -- the mud -- something is digging out of the mud!"
GM exclaims (at Cuddlepaws), "It looks like Anna's friend is too terrified to move!"
Cuddlepaws picks up an oddly helpfully prong shaped branch from the ground and tries to trap the tiger against the tree without hurting it.
Eben portals himself between the women and the tiger!
Wanda picks up the device quickly and backflips away from the *thing*!

Eben fights to stay upright on top of the lurching machine, but manages to catch himself. Softly he calls, "Hey, your mind's... Wanda-ing."
Cuddlepaws narrows her eyes as the machine grind against her shield.
[Crows-Nest] GM asks, "...saved by a dad joke?"
[Crows-Nest] Eben says, "Can you think of something more appropriate? ;-)"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "I cannot."
Wanda, for the first time, genuinely laughs at one of Eben's jokes. And she stops the pod.
Jacob starts pulling first aid supplies out of a pack. Always prepared.
Wanda says (to Eben), "Yes, it was. Heheh. Hee."
Cuddlepaws jumps onto the pod and headbutts Wanda. "You okay there?"
Eben smiles. "Look what you found! This is incredible."
GM says (to Wanda), "As you come back to yourself, the memories of how you managed to pilot the pod start to fade."
Wanda says, "We have to fix this, Grandpa."
Eben says, "Absolutely."
Eben says, "I bet it was your mother's. Which means it's yours now."
Wanda says, "Wow. There must be a computer on this thing. Maybe... there's a way... to send out a message."
Eben nods, seriously. "I'll look into it right away. We all will."
Wanda hops out, now super excited.
[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "Does Wanda have a consequence, or just Eben and Jacob?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I have Stab Wound."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "A Mild consequence, naturellement."
Eben peers into the cockpit. "Wow, I don't think I can even fit in here. Cuddlepaws, do you think you could move this somewhere safe? And, ideally, hidden?"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "This adventure has been of great... consequence."
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "What sort of roll is applying first aid? Lore? I can patch up Wanda and Eben. Can try to do myself, though it's a higher cost, unless someone else can. Maybe he's too squeamish to look at his own injuries."
[CCrusaders] Alex says (to Jacob), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that Lore is I embody the lore."
Eben says, "Then we need to get the tiger back to the zoo and Wanda's college friends back to their camp. Or just their stuff to them."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "It's Lore."
Cuddlepaws asks, "I'm not sure I've yet figured out how this works. Or do you mean levitate it?"
Jacob says, "C'mere, guys. I can patch you up first."
Eben says, "Well, that would work, too."
Eben submits to Jacob's ministrations.
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws asks (of gm), "Would you say it's car-sized?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Success! In fact, I'll let you use the roll for all three of it."
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "How does that work? It starts healing, or it's healed right away?"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "It starts healing, and goes away after one scene for mild."
[CCrusaders] GM says (to Eben), "It starts recovering, so you can rename it immediately."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "What Jacob said."
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Well, mine changes from Dramatic Face Slash to Dramatic Face Scar, of course ;-)"
[CCrusaders] GM says (to Cuddlepaws), "I'd say bigger than a human, smaller than a car."
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws asks (of eben), "Where do you want it?"
Jacob now calls the zoo, while Cuddlepaws is dealing with the pod.
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says, "I could bring it to the quarry, I guess"
[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Yeah, the quarry is the only place I could think of."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "My consequence changes from Stab Wound to Scarred Abdomen."
Cuddlepaws looks at the pod and stares intently. Energy begins to crackle and zap around her helmet.
GM says (to Jacob), "'Oh, thank you! But don't try to confront it yourself. You could get hurt if it decides to attack.'"
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "And it'll disappear after the first scene in the next session?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Yup."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "cool"
Jacob says, "It's been, uh, temporarily knocked out. Without hurting it. It's tied to a tree. And seems to be, uh, elastic? We'll wait for you to come get it."
[CCrusaders] GM says (to CP), "IIRC, that's a success."
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says, "I tag Subborn bugger to turn that into a success"
Cuddlepaws spends a fate point, leaving her with 7.
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says, "It was a +3 obstacle"
GM says (to Jacob), "You get them the details of your location, and they agree to have a team out here ASAP."
[Crows-Nest] (from Wanda) GM says, 'Unfortunately, the first scene in the next session is a super brutal fight scene against the entire police and LEAD robot forces.'
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Ah, excellent."
[CCrusaders] GM asks (of CP), "Where are you putting it?"
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws exclaims, "The quarry!"
[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "I guess I'll drive while CP levitates it along with us?"
[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "OK!"
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws exclaims, "I sure hope there's tuna at the end!"
Eben, before he goes, returns home to check on Anna and friend, who are presumably eating toast upstairs.
GM says, "So you drive off to the quarry, leaving the tiger sleeping soundly for the animal rescue team to find when they arrive, while poor Frances deals with first aid for Anna."
GM exclaims, "And I think that's a good place to end this session!"
[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Woo"
Eben exclaims, "Yay!"
[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "yippee"
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "hooray"
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says, "hey, but did I get my tuna? Stupid cliffhangers"
[CCrusaders] Wanda asks (of GM), "Quick question: is our next session really only 2 hours?"
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws says, "Also, woohoo"
[CCrusaders] GM says, "Yup -- scheduling was tricky, but that seemed better than no game at all."
[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "Okay."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "So remember, next week's game is on *Sunday*, not Saturday."
[CCrusaders] GM says, "And it goes from 4-6pm."
[CCrusaders] Cuddlepaws asks, "I had a question : Bastafore returns July 14th, or does that clash with anyone's schedule?"

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "By which I mean, there's a wedding scheduled, I *believe* it starts at 2pm."
